Don't ask, don't tell.

Granted, unless there's 30.06 signs there, or someone tells you ORALLY (not verbally), then it still is not illegal.
I don't know what this event/place is, but also if it is on government owned or leased property, then any 30.06 notice, verbal, or oral, is irrelevant.
Basically, the DADT rule, in regard to carry, is if you don't ask, they can't tell you no. Texas, by law, allows carry pretty much everywhere by default, and if they don't want you to carry there, they have to tell YOU. You are not required to ask, and doing so only gives them the ability to say no.
Most people in the state of Texas are completely oblivious to carry laws, and are unaware to the fact that people around them carry, legally, all the time. By asking, you are essentially outing that yourself and others may possibly be carrying there. Something the person who you are asking may not even have considered beforehand. Them telling you 'no' is one thing, but it could even cause them to research how to keep us out, leading into the posting of a 30.06 sign.
