Someone may be spoofing the Kansas AG's site

I got this from my google search of the .gov site

Your search - "Recognition of other states" site:http://www.kansas.gov/ksag/ - did not match any documents.
Although it sometimes seems like it Google isn't instantaneous. some times it takes a couple of days to catch up. Even if the site were spoofed . Google would still see it.

Honestly! Why would anyone want to spoof the Kansas AG's web site?? To what end?? Money? Hacker Cred??? What???

There is no good reason for anyone to try and spoof a reciprocity list from the Kansas AG!

Everything is not a conspiracy!! Try going to the Kansas state web site and follow the links from there. You'll find the same list...

You should probably do a little more than type in one search term into Google before you start suggesting that the info is falsified!!!!!!!

In Tom's defense (though he doesn't need defending), I went to the site as soon as I saw Tom's post. The link that is there today wasn't there then. The only thing I found using Google was their FAQ page, which was in the same design as the questionable post. So I suspected the earlier info was correct. But there was no link on their home page to any 2007 information about their concealed carry.

My guess is that in the chaos of getting everything done, the very last thing was to post the link on the home page.

Actualy I did more than a google search.

Once I noticed the *.org instead of the *.gov
I went to Network Solutions and ran a whois search
The *.org site was regestered years ago.

I looked at the *.gov site and tried to find a CHL reference.

What I saw was inconclusive.

It is quite possable that I am being too cautious but, I would not carry in Kansas based on an *.org site.

Well, its not like I'd be rushing to Kansas anytime soon, "just because"... ;-)

But if someone were to bribe me with buying me a bowl of BBQ beans...

I may reconsider...

Tom does make an excellent point--just because you see something on a web page (even on this forum) does not make it official or accurate information. I applaud him for searching for an authoritative source before he accepts it.

I happen to know a KS CHL holder who called me to tell me Texas was on the list. I did not think to ask him how he got his information since it matched what I'd read here, but I will verify that fact before I carry there (along with brushing up on their laws).

I'm not looking to start a fight here. But you did suggest that I had posted some bogus info and now you claim that the whois on the .org is inconclusive!

I beg to differ:

Clearly states that the domain is registered to the Kansas Attorney General!

I've been in the IT business for over 20 years! Doesn't mean I can't be fooled, but I wasn't this time. There are numerous "official government sites" that do not have the ".gov" suffix.

I'm not suggesting that you shouldn't check into info that you have questions about. I'm suggesting that you not make accusations until you have some proof. Your gut feeling is not a good reason to suggest that I have posted bogus info. And to be honest with you, I didn't appreciate it! It reminds me of PDO. And we all know what happened there. If this place is going to end up in a "click" mentality then it will go the same way as PDO.

You could have sent me PM with your concerns and we could have looked into it together. I would have been more than happy to give you my reasons for believing that the info was correct.... and it was as we all now know.

Well, should I change the diagram back?

I did a little research, and noticed that if you search for "texas concealed" on the Kansas main "government" page:

http://www.kansas.gov/

The ".org" comes up in the listing:

http://www.ksag.org/Concealed_Weapon/Re ... states.htm

But I did notice that kansas.gov is using a third party for the searches, here is the "search criteria url"

http://kansas.google.cdc.nicusa.com/sea ... xml_no_dtd

Great, now I'm paranoid......

Wow! Just Wow!! I don't know what to say.

Here's a thought! Someone could call the Kansas AG and ask if the info is correct!!!

Office of Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline
120 SW 10th Ave
Topeka, KS 66612
Phone: 785-296-2215
Consumer Protection: 800-432-2310
Crime Victims' Rights: 800-828-9745
TTY Phone: 1-800-766-3777
You should probably verify the phone number and address for yourself!

Let's get back to the subject matter of the thread, or it's getting locked.

Back on track...

I actually thought that Kansas would be one of the last states we "could" ever get an agreement with...

And since they started it, I believe we should quickly reciprocate...

I've already made my phone call to get it going...FWIW...

Public Information & Assistance (800) 252-8011 or (512) 475-4413 (in Austin)

Sorry, I didn't mean to start a fight about Kansas

It just looked odd to me, so I questioned it.
Out loud.

I wouldn't want any of my buddies to get charged with a unlawful packin' in Kansas.

See you at the range
Tom (Just because I am Paranoid, doesn't mean THEY aren't out to GET me)Neal

Oh, and this afternoon I found direct links from the .gov site to the .org site.
Can anyone recomend a mouthwash to get out a 'foot' taste?

Way to go Kansas!! I'm sure that Texas will recipricate soon.
A word of caution: As of this morning, January 9, 2007, that list is no longer up on the Kansas Attorney General's website. I called the AG's office this morning (785.296.2215). A person named Jennifer told me that with the transistion of Attorney Generals, the list was taken down while the new AG reviewed the list. As of this moment, she said, Kansas is not recognizing licensees from other states. The new AG will post an official list after he has had a chance to approve it.
