Carrying at district owned stadium

Can you carry at a school owned stadium during a non-school event. I have heard the place is 30.06 (not compliant) posted but it is owned by the district.

I am going to an event and would like to know my rights.

I'm guessing that if you have to pass through any kind of door to enter the stadium, it is off limits (considered premises.)

I think this is a bit tricky. Would the stadium be defined as a school since it is owned by the school district? I will only be going in to the stadium and not any of the buildings in the center.

I agree that it's tricky. Remember, it doesn't have to be a school to be off limits, but school premises, which doesn't include school parking lots, grounds, etc. That is why my opinion is, that if you have to enter the stadium through a door, especially one that can be secured, even the stadium might be considered 'premises.' If you can walk directly from the parking lot, through an opening in the fence, and enter the stadium, it might not be considered 'premises.'

I think I will just leave it in the car for this event. There is too much uncertainty for my liking. It seems that I often can’t carry my weapon in situations where I feel like I am at more risk.

....School district HQ has no students...but the building is school owned...and so is off limits...same for a stadium owned by a district...or a lawn mower shed, for that matter...ain't worth the hassle...(bugs them Ainglish teachers when I say ain't)...

The law says what the law says, but some people interpret it differently. AFAIK there's no case law.

However, you could make the argument that the school district HQ is off limits because the activities going on are always technically school events. A stadium may be leased for non-school related events and the definition of premises may not include the stadium since it is outside.

I am not saying you are wrong, but I think it is an interesting discussion. In addition, it may not be obvious to some people that the stadium is owned by the district. That being said, I think you must knowingly and/or recklessly carry to a school event to be considered guilty under the law.

It seems that the interpretation of law enforcement is all that matters in this situation. They usually side with whatever gets them the arrest.

What this wise man said. My god-mother's a detective for HPD so I've managed to meet a lot of LEO. They all seem to genuinely hate paperwork.
