With all the recent events, it seems that gun control is swimming with the tide.
Norway, that will surely lead to more gun control in Europe. Three people killed in Arizona at a motorcycle rally. One woman was shot six times, but is still alive. Five people shot at a roller rink in Dallas. A family argument. So far no mention of CHL in this one.
Then I see this article in the Chronicle today. Not about teaching gun safety, such as don't leave a gun laying around, and teach 15 year olds not to point a shotgun at their best friend and pull the trigger. But having more gun control.

How hard would it be to have a gun safety class for 30 minutes in school, once every two or three years. Fire the trick unloaded shotgun, that made a believer out of me.

The Arizona shooting at biker rally is murder-suicide.
However, the crime rate and violent crimes are lowest in decades. Less gun control at lower crime rate in deep recession. How nice for Brady bunch to explain?

One thing the gun control Nazi's don't seem to get is that you can't close Pandora's box. You cannot un-invent the gun no matter how hard you try. We have millions and millions of fire-arms here in the USA, do they really think they can get them all. How many million people does the NRA have as members? If you really want children to be safe--teach gun saftey. If you really want people to be safe--this is one point where education really is the key--educate them on weapons. Let them see what they do in real life. As a kid my grandfather shot a snake in front of us (with parents permission) we saw what that shotgun did to that rattle snake. It was pretty obliterated. Therefor, even as children we respected the weapons our parents had. At least 4 years later, I remember my neighbor took out his fathers 9mm, my brother and I looked at each other and basically ran out the door, left our friend standing there in the dust--we did not want to be like that snake. Guess what no one got hurt that day and our neighbor never did that again. Quite honestly I am pretty sure he got his tail beat as we ran out the door into my mom and we had a wild look in our eyes--of course we were too shook up to do anything but tell the truth--sorry Joey did not mean to tattle--it was really for the best.
You want saftey--educate and train. You want people who will get hurt--keep saying the mantra "guns are evil and bad as many times as you can."

I think that this was a case that gun-control could have stopped. The parents of the friend needed to maintain control of their gun.philip964 wrote:Then I see this article in the Chronicle today. I understand what you're saying. OTOH, the parents could have also taught the kids that while guns are deadly, they are not some evil forbidden fruit that should be hidden in the closet. I have friends and acquaintenences who have guns lying about openly in their house and the kids respect them because they've been taught what they are and what they can do, etc., etc.terryg wrote:I think that this was a case that gun-control could have stopped. Yes, anyway you cut it, the parents are responsible for the proper upbringing and actions of their offspring.

Agreed. Training children of the right age the proper respect of and actions around guns - would also fall under the this concept of gun-control.Oldgringo wrote:I understand what you're saying.
