Unconcealed in front of extended family

Post by paulhailes »

So I was visiting the extended family when the topic got to my cousins new tattoo, well my mom decided that everyone should see the one on my back. I decided that since I was carrying at the time and my extended family had no idea I had a CHL I would blow it off and just say I didn't feel like taking my shirt off. That didn't last everyone in the family wanted to see my tattoo and I had no more excuses so I showed them, they didn't even noticed the M&P a foot below the tat. My dad later remembered that I had got my CHL and asked to see my plastic, and I asked if he saw my gun when I took off my shirt, he was like you were carrying, I didn't even see it!

My dad really wants a CHL but since he moved to NM and took a pretty big pay cut he can't afford one, with finishing putting me throug school and now my brother who is about to start at UNM. I think I might buy him a class for Christmas.

Anyways just thought I would share my story, people really have no clue even when it's right in front of their face.

Funny story. So, just how "unconcealed" was it that no one noticed? I mean, especially since your dad knew you had the license and still didn't see it.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Pardon the hijack - but as per my handle - I noticed the camera in your avatar - is is a Bronica?? Is the only large format I have ever used and one of the first cameras I learned to use.

Thanks, now back to your regularly scheduled programing.

I believe it is a Minolta Twin Lens, We found it and a medium format in the basement of the Texas Tech Daily Toreador. We were going to try to shoot an entire paper from just the medium format camera but we never got around to getting film for it.

Now to make this post relevant, my guns are like my cameras, I usually have one on me. I bought my cameras to the get together, and they got me roped into editing pictures for my aunt. I wish I could conceal my cameras :grumble

 Granted it's been a long time but I can't, in my wildest, imagine my Mother and/or my Father asking to see anybody's tattoo; especially, one on me or my siblings. :eek6

The one and only time I was put into jail (1962), my mother hung up on my one call saying, 'if you're in jail you must deserve it'. I haven't had any run-ins with the law since then. I miss my Mother and Dad, this country is sorely in need of more like them.

:tiphat: I currently, have family staying with us, we take care of Father-in-law, Mother-In-Law.. I have a Sister-In-law and her daughter staying with us, to help care for the FAther/mother-in-law (full time job for them :???: )
:headscratch: We go everywhere together, I carry everywhere except to and from work :mad5

And to MY SURPRISE :biggrinjester: I have never been questioned.. I have a prepared statement all ready :rules: .. and now for over 6 months no one notice, my wife is the only who knows..

I carry a card in my billfold in case I get pulled over by LEO :tiphat: , that ask him to be discreet..

But, I won't be pulling up my shirt UP for any of my family :thewave , I think if I did, they might take the gun and shoot me with it :

My MIL was staying with us for about 5 months this past winter. My wife was sure she would soil herself if she knew I was into guns, carried around the house, took the kids to the range, etc. I had been taking every Friday off for a while because I had too burn some days at work - so I went shooting quite a few times. I would sneak out of the house with all my gear, stop at my FIL's house (they are long divorced) and clean the guns, then come back home.

Anyway, during this time my BIL and his new girlfriend stop by for a visit and he wants to go to the range - he had picked up a new .357 he wanted to try out. So we plan a trip, but let him know that to keep things a secret around his mom. Well, the whole thing falls apart as we are getting ready to go and so we 'let the cat out of the bag' and said we were going shooting and she said:

'Ohhh wow - target shooting - I always wanted to do that. My dad was crack shot - the best shot in town.' or something to that effect. My oldest daughter said my wife's expression was priceless as her jaw hit the floor.

My in laws are way anti gun. Dyed in the wool hippies. Thir house is the only place I go where the gun stays in the car. Theiy're great people, so I respect their wishes.

My wife told me that my father in law said something like "theat boy is probably packing heat everywhere he goes." My wife thought hearing him say "packing heat" was immensely funny. I said "he must not think much of me". When my wife asked why, I said "because he said probably". :)
