This is sort of like the poppy seeds from your morning roll in you cuff when you travel through Dubai, only he got released after a few days without charges. But probably ended up paying a lot of money to an attorney.

There was no mention of how he got through Kansas Cities airport security to leave.

To me bullets are either in the gun or in a box. Loose bullets don't seem to happen in my life.

One of my personal rules is to never go to stupid places.

Many people in El Paso have gone through the same thing with Mexico. Sometimes they don't check the car thoroughly enough and there's a stray round or casing, like a .22LR wedged between the seat and console or something. Some people think FOPA will protect them in Mexico and lock a gun in a box and happily declare it and get arrested.

The worst one is that the interchange between I-10 and US-54 (the "Spaghetti Bowl") has some ramps that go straight to Juarez. There have been more than a few people that get shot down that ramp and for whatever reason miss the turnaround on the Texas side and think they can turn around on the Mexican side of the bridge and go back to the U.S. Mexican cops will usually stop a car that turns around before the inspection point. One guy was arrested because he had two AR-15s and 500+ rds of ammo and was stopped before he could turn around and get back over the border.

My solution? Never go to Mexico. In addition to the lousy firearms laws, they also run on the Napoleonic code (guilty until you can prove innocence), and as an outsider they consider your mere presence to be evidence of fault. Say you get into a traffic accident, even if it was the other guy's fault you are still on the hook because if you had stayed in the U.S. you wouldn't have gotten into a wreck. You might get out of the situation if you can pay a big enough bribe to the cop, but then again he might just take your bribe money and then throw you in jail anyway.

There are a lot of pretty places around the world, but it's just like a pretty face in a bar. The consequences of going for a visit sometimes aren't worth it.

Asian countries have that same view of foreign visitors: If you weren't visiting, the accident wouldn't have happened, so it is your fault.
