How often do you review/ read the Texas CHL manual?

Post by v-rog »

Just wondering how often you reivew/re-read the Texas CHL manual. I like to be prepared. If I don't review it every couple of weeks then I tend to forget something.

Most all the review I need I get right here on this wonderful site. Occasionally, if I have a question about something I will get the little booklet out.

I'll open it up about once a month and hit the sections I've highlighted.

I have it as a searchable PDF on my desktop. I don't make a practice of reading it, but I do refer to it periodically to make sure I'm understanding some issue or other correctly.

I carry it in my car, read it instead of texting while driving ...

just kidding

It's in the car and I do read it often, and online I checked Statutes REAL often at first and still pretty often/weekly due to this forum

Most of the manual is administrative stuff that only applies once every five years. The deadly force laws are consistent with my own rules of engagements. I know what places are off limits. So I only read the manual when looking for a quote to paste into an internet thread.

The actual book, maybe once a year. I do, however, visit the state's website several times a month.

I keep it in my truck, have it on pdf on my work computer, and have GREAT searchable app on my Android that was written by a forum member. Sometime I check daily, weekly or monthly. It just depends on if I think of something to check up on. I know the laws regarding CHL fairly well. I have the distinction of being the go to guy regarding gun and CHL questions among those that know me. However, I feel like a novice compared to the bright minds that I interact with on this wonderful forum.

:iagree: I seldom look at the DPS handbook; I generally check for updates a couple of times per year. But I hit the Texas Statutes page regularly, and the United States Code less frequently.

Unless you have total recall, ya gotta read this stuff periodically if you hope to remember it. ;-)

I tend to review on an as needed basis. If I get a question I can't answer, I reread those parts. If I see someone post something that doesn't match my understanding, I go back an hit that section to confirm what's correct and try to understand where I or they misunderstood.

Without this site, I would say 90% of the those who are newly minted CHL have wrong information as per Penal code in relation of the use of deadly force or the places where one can't carry.

This site makes it crystal clear. However, sometime we have someone here who post something like, any sign or notice of gun-buster is enough to get one arrested and 30.06 is just a defense of the prosecution.
