Need a good .50 BMG recipe??? Anyone??? Is this mic on???

Post by stevie_d_64 »

So far I have the cases, I know what primer(s) I'm going to use for this first batch CCI #35, just need to get a good provider/retailer for the powder that I haven't quite figured out...And the bullet, prefferably an API (750gr.)...

I believe I can get the OAL to about 5.770" and that will fit nicely in the chamber of the M99 I am shooting these days...The bullet will start to touch the lands at 5.780" FYI, I learned that from another Barrett shooter the other day...He gets about a.4 MOA with this setup...He hasn't responded yet with a request for a couple of recipes for the overall need that I have...

I'd like to be able to drive up and purchase this stuff and get it back to the Bat Cave and get the party started pretty soon...

Just covering all my bases on this deal...

Don't get all torqued off when people on an inherently pistol-related forum don't jump right up and answer reloading questions on the .50 BMG.

You weren't seriously looking for a reply, were you?

Steve,

There are not a lot of folks who can afford that hardware and ammunition, even reloaded, is expensive. I shoot with a friends Barret a couple of times a year, and it's EXPENSIVE.
He uses Hodgdens special purpose BMG powder.
There are very few folks who shoot that round.
There are even less folks who reload for it.

Be patient, someone with some helpful knowledge will be along sooner or later.

Besides the financial aspect, there's one prerequisite to getting a .50 BMG rifle: having somewhere to shoot it.

A lot of us don't have a viable range nearby.

With the ballistic range of the 50 BMG would a shooter need to take a bicycle or atv to the range in order to get out to the target and back in a reasonable amount of time???

Well here is what my M99 absolutely shoots best.

5.770 Oal
220 Grains of H50
CCI #35 Primer

IMI Brass

I am able to shoot at .4 MOA with this load at 565 yards.

I haven't measured the accuracy at 1000 yards.
