I was there on Sunday and did not see one. But depending on when you go it might be off limits is a school field trip is there.

Going for the Star Wars Exibit huh. Was defianatly cool. Image

Here is a question kinda related......

You are there first, no school related events. Then a group of kids show up after you have been there. Do you leave or just finish the tour?

Guess the right thing to do would be to step out and disarm.

I know its been awhile but I have finally gotten around to taking the pics off the camera. If anyone else is going to go to this thing be sure to check out the Falcons bumper sticker. It's below the rear engine. About dead center.

Can someone clarify this for me. Why would you have to leave because of a field trip showing up? Are you saying anytime a field trip shows up anywhere a CHL holder must leave?

I went yesterday and they do have a sign by the IMAX entrance. Need to look into who owns the building. Either way I had to go back to the car to, uh get some chap stick. :grumble

ETA: City of Ft Worth owns the property. I guess I am an honest law abiding sheep. :???:

I know that during the summers they operate "Museum School" for the kids. It's been about 3 years since we've been there don't recall seeing the signs back then.

General consensus is a place that is not under control of an officially recognized school does not become automatically off limits because a school field trip shows up. So no, it would not prohibit you from carrying if you were there already or even if you came after the kids were there.

Now, the only caveat I throw in there is if you are part of the school outing, THEN you are not allowed to carry by statute. however, that is my interpretation, but think it is pretty well on target.

I bet they use the same reasoning as the zoo "We have kids here on school field trips so we are classified as a school" :banghead:

My opinion is unless they are listed as a accredited private school by TEPSAC http://www.tepsac.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or a public school by the Texas Education Agency http://mansfield.tea.state.tx.us/tea.as ... /Home.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, then they are NOT a school per the intentions of the statute. Just because they are teaching someone something doesn't mean they are official. Besides, any business can call themselves a school; Bubba's School of Gymnastics, Billy Bobs Karate School, Joe-Bob's School of Hard Knocks, etc. That doesn't make them off-limits IMO.

You know, the TABC keeps businesses honest on the 51% signs.
Why can't one of the state agencies - Texas Rangers would be my choice, or DPS - do the same for 30.06 signs posted at publicly-owned properties?

...if a TABC-licensed business doesn't post correctly, they are breaking the TABC laws, and violating terms of their license...if a business or government office or building "posts" incorrectly, they're just being ignorant, or lazy, or(and this is the way I view it) they really want our business, they're trying to keep some lawyer at corporate off their backside...so their unenforceable signs aren't enforceable...not breaking any laws...I don't want our Rangers "saddled" with that kind of job... :patriot:

DPS would be the logical choice.
I wrote Alice Tripp an email about it just now.
suggestion for next session

Hi Alice

first, I much appreciate your tireless efforts on behalf of Texas citizens - Thank you!

As CHL owner, I have to watch for two signs 51% and 30.06.
I know that TABC keeps a close eye on 51% signs and is quick to correct improper signage.
When I see a 51% sign, I know it's valid, or I know how to get it fixed.

For 30.06 signs there is no equivalent enforcement. I am so tired of seeing 30.06 signs on government properties.
Fort Worth Museum of Science & History, and Fort Worth Zoo are my local examples. The zoo thinks they can call themselves a school because students go there on field trips.
We all know the signs are invalid, but none of us wants to be a test case.
I would love to see a bill to task DPS or the Texas Rangers with ensuring that 30.06 signs are only posted where it is legal to do so, particularly with regard to public-owned properties.
