Proper 30.06?

Post by SonicmetalicS »

I'm new to this whole thing and still getting to know the look of the proper signs and such.
I spotted this one at the doctors office today. Is it a proper 30.06 sign? It seemed to be worded properly, be in contrasting colors, and was well displayed, BUT is the text big enough, and does it have to be in the block lettering or is this font acceptable?

Here's one with my thumb pressed up against it for size reference, its just your average run of the mill thumb, not big or small.

I thought it had to be block letters, like this

Here's the excerpt from the penal code
"(ii) appears in contrasting colors with block letters at least one inch in height;"

Looks legit.

"Block letters" casts a wide net.

Yeah I wouldn't carry past that sign, or any other 30.06 that seemed reasonably correct. I was just curious as to if it was the correct sign.

The font looks like block letters to me - it's certainly not cursive. The statute doesn't say ALLCAPS and I notice the exemplar text is mixed case.

The words "of the" before Penal Code are incorrect. This makes the sign invalid. Personal decision to carry past.

Good catch.

I'm afraid I usually look at the 411 portion since most signs I see are still the 4413(29ee).

Block does not mean capitals. Those are block letters. And, not knowing the width of

And, even though techncially the wording is wrong, I would be cautious on something that close.

I would err on the side of caution with that sign. Though not 100% it is close enough to perhaps make a case of proper notice.

Block letters means the characters have straight lines as appropriate in the letters, vertical orientation and many times uppercase, but not always. I used to paint signs and people would say block letters and I'd alway confirm if they wanted all uppercase or not. Some did, some just didn't want cursive or italics, etc. Block letters also refers to crude printing techniques using letters carved on wood or metal. Our genius lawmakers probably had something specific in mind maybe even all uppercase, but we all know their frontal cortex never fully developed.
