Re: Texas CHL and DD214
I don't want to put words in the OP's mouth but I thought he was referring to states like Florida, that if you ever qualified and it is in your DD-214, your training is waived. My dad did that, and I would be hard pressed to say he didn't know the laws or how to handle a weapon. Recent class doesn't guarantee competence and distant ones doesn't preclude it.
As to the shooting part being "way too easy". Really? What particular set of gyrations SHOULD be imposed on people to use there 2nd Amendment rights?

Florida will also accept competitive shooting experience. That makes sense. If qualifying with a pistol once in the military is sufficient, being an IPSC or IDPA shooter is more than sufficient.
When in doubt
Vote them out!

I just think that shooting from 3Yds (I can almost touch the target) 7yds and 15 yds (15 yds is okay)is much to easy to show any proficiency with a handgun.
Gyrations---maybe stand on one leg shooting from a mirror

When I was in the Army you had to re-qualify with your basic issue weapon every year. Of course that was eons ago.tacticool wrote:Florida will also accept competitive shooting experience. Unless you're an MP or something like that, isn't the basic issue weapon a rifle?Dragonfighter wrote:And a few less eons ago, it was still that way.G26ster wrote:When I was in the Army you had to re-qualify with your basic issue weapon every year. Of course that was eons ago.
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.
Re: Texas CHL and DD214
Not in my day. When I was a non-mechanized heavy weapons Infantryman (81mm mortars), my basic weapon was either a M1 Garand, and later an M14. When I was a mechanized 81mm mortar squad leader, with the mortar mounted in an APC, my basic weapon was a 1911A1, as my job was to man the M2 50 cal. mounted on top when moving. When I was an aviator in RVN, my issue weapon was a 4" bbl S&W M&P revolver. Not everyone in the military carries a rifle. Depends on the weapon called for in your duty position. I guess my age is showingAmeer wrote:Unless you're an MP or something like that, isn't the basic issue weapon a rifle?Dragonfighter wrote:And a few less eons ago, it was still that way.G26ster wrote:When I was in the Army you had to re-qualify with your basic issue weapon every year. Just shoot the darn gun! That is the best part of the class anyway.

I qualified in basic with an M-16, I later qualified on a M1911-A1 and a few foreign rigs. I had to re-qualify with both the Rifle and .45. FWIW I carried the pistol more often.Ameer wrote:Unless you're an MP or something like that, isn't the basic issue weapon a rifle?Dragonfighter wrote:And a few less eons ago, it was still that way.G26ster wrote:When I was in the Army you had to re-qualify with your basic issue weapon every year. MP's at Bragg carried revolvers on post back then.
