I have an older gentleman in my congregation who served on the USS IDAHO during WWII. Before he dies, he's trying to build a small collection of guns he used in the service so that he can remember and reminisce as well as pass them onto his kids after he dies. DISCLOSURE: I am his pastor, not related to him in any way, form or fashion, and other than trying to help an old man and watch him pick up pieces, get no benefit from this at all. I am only a "broker," so to speak. PM me here and I'll pass that along to the gentleman. He's hard of hearing (he was on a battleship for most of the major campaigns of the South Pacific...what do you expect?) so you might speak with me first.
Anyway, he's looking for a M1 Carbine. I see the new Auto Ordinance are available, but he really wants a WWII era, USGI-issue. CMP is out, of course, and doesn't expect any in the future.
All he wants is a decent shooter. By decent, I mean it has to function and let's say keep everything on paper at 50 yards. I suppose CMP would call that rack grade. (Please don't offer this old gentleman a piece o' junk that he will resent. Likewise, he's not looking to drop the coin on a "correct"/matching/mint gun.) Of course, the nicer it is, the happier he will be.
Anyone have a M1 Carbine he/she would like to sell? It will be given a very loving home and cherished deeply.
If you would like some form of proof that this story is legit, let me know what you want and I'll do what I can to appease any concerns.

Reverend, I just got into Carbines about a year ago. From my experience, since DCM ran out, the price has gone through through the roof. I bought a mixmaster at a local shop for $850.

here's an Auto Ordinance for $550 in Buda. the shop owner is a vet himself, i bet if you were to call and discuss it with him, he'd give you an even better deal.

best of luck, good on you for helping this veteran out.

The Auto Ordinance is not a USGI Carbine. It is a commercial model, and I believe the gentleman wants a USGI issue Carbine. That would be either an: Inland, IBM, Iwin-Petersen, National Postal Meter, Quality Hardware, Rock-Ola, Saginaw Gear, Saginaw S'G', Standard products, Underwood, or Winchester.
Re: WTB (maybe) M1 Carbine - Houston
I found a couple USGI models in his price range. Granted, they aren't the prettiest guns in the world but they are genuine. I printed off pictures this afternoon and went to his house to show the vet the photos.
He changed his song a little bit. He wants the best gun his money can buy and he wants a good looking gun. The historical nature of the gun is now secondary.
So, I'm on the hunt for this ol' boy.
I tried to call the fellow in Buda but no answer. I'll try again later.
