This is called breaking and entering here in the real world and it comes with some serious risks. I can't even believe this is an issue.

The British police are going to be finding more bodies in alleys—like they do in Chicago.

If I didn't know better, I'd a thought I was reading something in the National Lampoon!

Interesting story...
My Thoughts on the topic.

Dear squatters, may I suggest you not attempt that endeavor central Tex, on or about the property of Marquez racing. My guess is, such action will take me months of cleaning, painting, patching 1/2" holes in the walls and floor boards, not to mention stain removal to correct your visit..

Really hard to believe. Liberalism at its highest art form.
At least this story is not written from the side of the poor squatters, there could be some hope for them.

Re: More absurdity from Britain
Well, it is the UK Daily Mail, after all. But if this is even remotely true:
The shame of what Great Britain has become since World War II is reaching new heights.Across London and other cities around the country, gangs of squatters have been occupying people’s homes, sometimes forcing their way in after the owner has gone out for only a few hours...
An estimated 20,000 squatters in the UK are exploiting lax laws.
Although it is illegal for squatters to stay if the property owner demands they leave, police will usually intervene only after the despairing householder has spent thousands of pounds obtaining a court eviction order.
The squatters’ ultimate goal — which, thankfully, is rarely realised — is to squat in a property for ten years, at which point they become the new legal owner.

Yep...I don't think that kind of mess would play too well here in "flyover country"...those "sophisticated" Brits might mostly enjoy some stranger(s) plunking themselves down in their home and not leaving, but I think that even most liberals in this state wouldn't react too kindly!

...once they've been assured by the gooberment that citizens who use force to remove them or keep them out in the first place will be vigorously prosecuted, what's to hinder their just taking what they want...this ain't Texas we're reading about...never will be...

Re: More absurdity from Britain
What speaks volumes is that the squatters cover their faces so that they cannot be identified. My guess is that they owe back-taxes and other debts to society, or are wanted by what passes for "the law" there, and they don't want to get nabbed. It most certainly isn't because they are ashamed of their behavior.

Dear Goldilocks, you really need to visit the U.N. and get them to agree to give you title to the property you took from the 3 Bears while they were away, then you can name it Palestine, U.K.'s Gangland Housing or whatever you want.

Most of Europe has no defense of personal rights as strong as we take for granted. They maintain databases of suspects in anarchist movements, football hooligans, and other undesireables. These people can be prevented from traveling or taken into custody without charges. The Annoyed Man wrote:What speaks volumes is that the squatters cover their faces so that they cannot be identified. I suspect also it is the fashion statement du jour, like unnatural hair color used to be. You can find other images of this kind of disguise.
