You'd be surprised how much a couple thousandths of an inch can affect proper ramp feeding. My factory Glock barrel is very tolerant, but my Lone Wolf barrel turns into a whiny baby if I"m off so much as .002"canvasbck wrote:I was actually looking at getting closer to max OAL, which is 1.169".
I was planning on a COAL of 1.160". Anyone see potential problems with that?
Since it is your first time with this load, it never hurts to load some empty rounds (case + bullet, no primer, no powder) and test feeding from your magazine and chambering.canvasbck wrote:I was actually looking at getting closer to max OAL, which is 1.169".

I know a couple of guys that use that exact recipe for an IDPA load with a COAL of 1.1. One shoots a Glock and one shoots an M&P. Both function fine and it has been very successful load for them.canvasbck wrote:This will be my first time loading 9mm. I have only loaded .40 S&W previously. I am looking to work up a load for IDPA so I'm wanting very light recoil just above the power floor of 125. I seem to be having trouble finding good load data for titegroup with plated bullets. Below is where I plan to start based on feedback from some others that I shoot IDPA with.

Work, work and more work....we're starting to shoot a little more, starting with last night. It was good to get shooting again!canvasbck wrote:williamkevin, where have you been lately? Haven't seen yall at the Monday night shoots in a while.
canvasbck wrote:I put the brand new M&P through her paces today with the recipe. COAL was 1.160". The weapon functioned flawlessly when I was shooting it, and the recoil was very mild. My FFL's wife shot about 10 rounds through it and had a couple of stovepipes, I believe she was limp wristing with her cup and saucer grip. Thanks all for the input, now I need to chrony a few rounds to see where I am in relation to the power floor.
Jumping frog, thanks for the tip on using a dummy round. I keep a dummy around to set up my bullet seating die to the proper depth when switching dies. I used it for a while to make sure I was feeding OK.
