My 4yrs old PC died, so a new PC 2011 build is..

My 4yrs old PC died, so a new PC 2011 build is on the way. I ordered the parts on Firday. By this weekend, I would be busy assembling a new PC.

I only reused a Wireless Logitech Mouse and Keyboard, Oh, I am also using my trusted Dell 2407.
1 of my 120 Gb IDE will be reused as a Net drive( hooked to the CISCO Linksys wireless router) for media streaming to PCs and Media Room TV.

Does it look good?

I am throwing in Win7 x 64 Pro SP-1 (but where I placed that never used MS DVD!??) and of course Ubuntu.

The only thing I would add is a 2-4 tb backup disk. With a disk that big, if you fill it, it will die.

How are you planning on carving up those disks? 60GB SSD, 120GB SSD, and 1TB SATA? 60GB \, 120GB \home, with the 1TB being a backup? Some kind of LVM config?

The plan was to 120 GB for Win7/8 OS and Apps, 60 GB SSD is split for 40GB for the HDD Caching (new intel Quick Sync with Z68 chipsetand 20 GB for ubuntu using a WUBI. 1TB for all my data files and media files and games (if any). I have to dump maybe 4-120 GB IDE HDD worth of files on the 1-TB. Then, the fun of sorting and clean all those digital dust (Family Photos and Videos)

Later on, I may get second 1-TB for Backup purposes. I could use the blue ray as backup but with low cost of HDD, why bother.

My PC of 7 years is still going strong. However the motherboard is showing its age. The built in audio stopped working after getting banged around in the car because of Houston traffic. I'm guessing that also caused damage which has finally deteriorated. In a month or so, I'm just going to buy a new motherboard, CPU and RAM. Mouse, keyboard, LCD, case, DVD drive, PSU, graphics, HDDs, etc should still all be good. A computer with quality-made parts that is taken care off will last a long time.

One 10,000 RPM drive for XP and Programs with SteadyState.
One drive for personal files.
One drive for downloading/uploading.
DreamHost with CoreFTP for encrypting off-site backups.

No solution in place yet for on-site backups.

External HD on your router. I have a linksys router with a USB port for affixing an external HD drive that can be shared by all on your home network. Something like this allows for hot swaps on your backup drives.
