80 Days and Counting

Post by scottsglock »

Hello All,

I have been viewing this site since I first became interested in getting my CHL license earlier this year, but I have not posted yet. I am posting this message to give an update on DPS and the delay in me receiving my plastic. I took my CHL course October 27-28 (half days) and since I live in Austin, I dropped my paperwork off at the DPS CHL office on the following Tuesday. I was hoping to get my plastic by the New Year since that would be the full 60 days. However, knowing that the Christmas and New Year’s holidays corresponded, I did not think it very likely. New Years has come and gone and still no plastic. Earlier this week was MLK day and 2 snow days (very rare in Austin). So now I am at 79 days (title says 80, which is such a nice round number), and still no plastic. I called DPS today and they sounded a bit hurried and told me I should get it in a week or 2, stress on 2. What a pity .

I got my concealment rig and my gun, but no place to go…

Scott

Welcome Scott. I wish I could say your experience is unusual, but unfortunately it's not.

I finally got the plastic in a mere 85 days. I check the DPS website on Monday and the massage changed to "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active". So I went home to check the mail yesterday, no luck, and today. It was in the mail today! I wish those still waiting the best and I hope it doesn't take you this long.
