Perry on immigration

Re: Perry on immigration
It appears that SB1526 from the 2001 Texas Legislation allows this. It is NOT just for children born here to illegal parents. The kiddo could've been born in another country and brought over here illegally and still qualify for in-state tuition! Errr.......I no longer agree with you on this topic Ricky!

No problem, we got that covered too.Beiruty wrote:So illegals residents can have in-state tuition and US Citizens living in other US states can;t have the same in-state tuition?
Maybe Texas should give illegal Residents FREE Medical Care.

The law today is that a child born in this country is a citizen, regardless of how their parents arrived here.
While I'd like to change that law, I propose the following.
Illegal aliens should be deported (as soon as we secure the border). Immediately prior to being deported, they can choose to leave their US citizen children in the care of another US citizen, or, they can take their child with them when they go. Their choice. Don't give me any sob story about breaking up families. They made the choice to come here illegally, they can make the choice to take their baby home or leave them behind. I have absolutely zero qualms about that. Zero, none, zilch.
Those children born outside the country and brought here illegally are illegal... They should be deported along with their parents.
Those children that are entitled to US citizenship can come and go as they please, but their illegal parents cannot.

I am not a lawyer. This is NOT legal advice.!

I'm waiting for something to come to light that would explain to me why this proposal was approved by such an overwhelming majority.texanron wrote:It appears that SB1526 from the 2001 Texas Legislation allows this. At the moment, the logic for this escapes me.

Re: Perry on immigration
we already give them free medical...have you never had to take your child to an ER? Unless you're taking a baby, or your kid is spewing blood, you end up waiting while the illegals are getting their ear infections and sore throats dealt with, meanwhile your kid is in pain with a broken arm...yeh, I screamed louder and won.
don't mess with my kid!

You know I would not call you heartless. I just don't think that the majority of the people in this country have the guts to watch it happen. The media will cry and will feature story after story after story of 4 year old child being left behind as his mother is deported, the 17 year old that thought he was born in El Paso, speaks no Spanish but is being deported to Mexico. They will do this in more and more dramatic fashion until it becomes a roar and such a distraction that we cannot get to the things that matter the most right now to Americans. So if we can have a plan to fix the situation that addresses the major issues (immigration, and border control) and keeps the liberal left bleeding hearts from drowning the country in their sorrow then all the better for us.

I agree. If your parents embezzle a million dollars, you shouldn't be sent to prison or get a criminal record for something they did. On the other hand, you shouldn't get to keep the million dollars either.EconDoc wrote:Personally, I don't like the idea of laws penalizing children for their parents' bad choices.

Re: Perry on immigration
That is true, and if under some strange circumstance I had to move to another country my kids would most assuardly be coming with me, but that is not the card that will be played in the media. It will be the mommy is being deported as baby cries.tbrown wrote:There's no law saying she can't take him with her.mamabearCali wrote:The media will cry and will feature story after story after story of 4 year old child being left behind as his mother is deported,

Re: Perry on immigration
So outside of the illegals getting instate tuition AFTER we have already had to pay to educate them for 12 years. What about the other issue on the border fence and Perry.

He's probably the best choice among the Republican candidates but that says more against the others than it does for Perry.

No one from either party is going to risk alienating the Hispanic vote. That's all I'm going to say about that.

Re: Perry on immigration
I, unfortunately, know a lot about the border project starting for me some 15years ago. Don't ask I cannot tell you. Where the international boundary is in water, the fence is built upland (avoiding sensitive resources). Building the fence just remains impractical in some areas -just too remote and it will not stop someone with a ladder, cutting torch, shovel, or just good climbing skills. Perry is correct - flooding the border with troops and law enforcement is an answer. HOWEVER, that is useless unless there is a significant deterent when caught AND the ability of enforcement actions on those that do get across but get caught somewhere in the US. No sanctuaries, no inability to ask status, enforcement of proving identification.mamabearCali wrote:On the border fence--DUH in TX you can't put up a fence it is a RIVER! However outside of TX, wouldn't a wall slow down illegal immigration and drugs. I mean I know they will get around it, but at least it could cut down on the foot traffic just waltzing across our border. Intelligent opinions are greatly desired.
On the children getting instate tuition--not sure where I stand on that one. Yall voted this law in. What did you think about it? What were the parameters--etc etc.
I am done on the HPV vaccine issue. I in general think it is a vaccine that has limited use, but he said he was sorry and wouldn't make that mistake again (of making something mandatory by fiat bypassing the legislature).
On in-state tuition - I didn't like it. It got passed because we have a 38 percent Hispanic population. So be it.
On the vaccine, Perry had the right heart, just the wrong approach. What about polio, measles, whooping cough, smallpox? Those vaccines saved millions of lives, mostly children. From what I remember, there was no option out like there was for the hpv vaccine.
