Correctional Officers & CHL

Post by johnferg69 »

I recently took a CO position with TDCJ. Currently I'm working Ad Seg at Tennessee Colonys biggest unit. Although I've had my CHL since '98 I thought "Hmmm, surely COs get a discount on CHL renewals". From what I've read guess I was wrong!!

Don't feel bad. People who pay property taxes don't get a break either.

LOL, I hear ya! But not all property tax payers like ourselves police 4500 felons daily either! And many with grudges against the Bosses do get out eventually.

No discount. You would think being handgun, taser, oc, baton, and shotgun certified we would at least get some type of discount right? On the bright side we didn't have to worry about the pictures or fingerprints. We fingerprinted and mug shot each other. LOL.

Instead of setting up CO's as yet another privileged class, I'd rather have constitutional carry. Everyone who is not under firearms disability can carry anything they want, openly or concealed, without paying a license tax to the state for their 2A rights.

No discount, but if you're looking for a new Glock http://www.GTDist.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; gives Correctional Officers huge discounts on all Glock handguns. I just got a Gen4 G22 for $398.20, $463 and change after taxes....the Gen 4 Glocks MSRP is around $550 pretax.

If you're in the Austin area, I highly recommend a trip to GT Distributors. While I've not ordered anything online from them, but I would imagine the pricing and customer service would be equally as good.

Based upon arrangements they have with various manufacturers, they have some restrictions as to whom certain brands can be sold. Pretty sure their website isn't up-to-date on this, as I'm not LEO and was able to purchase a Ruger, so give them a call if this might be a factor.
