Cite? I have a hard time believing companies break the law when they obtain a name, address, etc. from a DL.
The thread was started by Mr. Cotten regarding use of info on a Texas Drivers license and card reading equipment. As I said i am not too good at doing searches. I see people inserting viewtopic but I've never been able to find much less insert old threads.

I've never had much luck using this site's built-in search function. I always end up using Google like this:
site:texaschlforum.com Search Words Here

By using "site:texaschlforum.com" (without the quotes) in the search field, Google will only search Texas CHL Forum.

I decided to give it one more try. Wah! Lah! Don't know if I'm now a geek or it's just serendipity.

Let me get this straight. Suppose I book an eTicket on Continental. When I go to the airport, I walk up to a kiosk and insert my Texas DL. It reads the magnetic stripe, gets my name (et cetera?) and looks up my reservation. Every time that happens, Continental Airlines is breaking the law?

The mind boggles.

I can't offer legal opinion though I have stayed many times in a Holiday Inn Express!

Slightly off topic, but wanted to point out that this is an excellent technique for searching many online resources; you know the authority's archives you want to search, just the onsite tools are lacking. :thumbs2:

State, county, city, precinct laws to consider.......very confusing.

My city is in two counties......more confusing.

I'm not sure what function a precinct serves anymore other than to duplicate roles and perhaps to lower the unemployment in that way but, that's a topic for another thread

Hm. According to the TABC spreadsheet, Tomball is defined as "Wet," and the sale of mixed beverages is authorized without restaurant restriction.

It looks like the restaurant is new, just opened last August, and it's pretty much smack in the middle of Tomball, on Commerce near N. Cherry. I don't get to Tomball very often, and don't drink when I'm out and about, so have no firsthand knowledge. But like the OP, I'm scratchin' my head about why a "club" would be required in that restaurant to buy a margarita...

Ditto. He's not an LEO. The right thing to do would have been to explain the situation, and ask her permission to scan the ID if she still wanted to proceed and order a drink. People presume too much. If it had been me, I would have spoken up loud and clear and immediately asked, "Hey, where are you going with her ID?"

TAM, he left so quickly and someone walked behind him, so I just watched him. I called the restaurant and the owner will be giving me a call today.

My first question, before I handed over an ID, would be "since I'm obviously over 21, why would you need an ID"? Surprisingly, a lot of times, that's gotten me out of having to show a DL.
It is a common policy for companies to check all IDs when serving alcohol (every restaurant I've worked at). The law does not say we are required to show ID if we are over 21.

Texas state law does not require that a person over 21 provide any identification to purchase alcohol in Texas.
Seems we are all showing our IDs more than required by law these days.

I'm going to go to this restaurant and order a drink. When the sever asks for ID, I will ask to see theirs first. If they're dumb enough to give it to me I'll use my phone and snap a photo of it and then get a picture of the expression on their face just before I walk out.

If all goes well it should look something like this...

I can't wait!
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.
