Lenny Skutnik. I was 14 at the time...he made quite an impression.

Arms belonging to an ancestor. As a pseudo family historian I took the blason and drew it up. I am trying to track down the original armiger, see what if any differences have been added then petition the Lord Lyon for a matriculation.

I'm an Aries, my initials spell RAM. It's a picture of my back taken at the lake house by my good friend yzaz who was in the process of chronicalling(sp) all of the tattoos of the 30+ family and family friends spending our yearly lake trip together. It's my rendition of a Paul Booth painting of a Jacob's ram. I had the artist remove the five curved horns and replace the with the curly horns.

After reading this thread, I finally decided to choose an avatar.

My avatar is the United States Merchant Marine Flag:

Today, thankfully we do not have an enemy that is trying to sink our supply lines. In WWII we had such an enemy. Today, not many people know of the sacrifices of the United States Merchant Marine.

Here are some statistics:
How many U.S. Merchant Marine and U.S. Army Transport Service casualties were there in World War II? We may never know the exact count, because the U.S. government never kept accurate records as it did for other services.

Merchant ships faced danger from submarines, mines, armed raiders and destroyers, aircraft, "kamikaze," and the elements. About 8,300 mariners were killed at sea, 12,000 wounded of whom at least 1,100 died from their wounds, and 663 men and women were taken prisoner. (Total killed estimated 9,300.) Some were blown to death, some incinerated, some drowned, some froze, and some starved. 66 died in prison camps or aboard Japanese ships while being transported to other camps. 31 ships vanished without a trace to a watery grave.

1 in 26 mariners serving aboard merchant ships in World WW II died in the line of duty, suffering a greater percentage of war-related deaths than all other U.S. services. Casualties were kept secret during the War to keep information about their success from the enemy and to attract and keep mariners at sea.

Newspapers carried essentially the same story each week: "Two medium-sized Allied ships sunk in the Atlantic." In reality, the average for 1942 was 33 Allied ships sunk each week.

My avatar was taken in Canada last August. I rode 8000+ miles in 16 days going from El Paso to Prudhoe Bay Alaska and back. That is a shot of my bike parked at Muncho Lake where I camped after a long day of mountain riding. Picture was taken at about 11:30pm and it was only dusky.
