My daughter's Macbook AIR is one of the nicest computers we have ever owned. However the frequency at which apps hang and require killing off is about the same frequency as they are on our XP desktops.

Is this the new one that came with Lion (OSX 10.7)? I have heard enough negative things about 10.7 that I'm sticking with 10.6 for as long as I can, even though I really REALLY want one of those new MB Airs.

Updated my iPad 1 and iPhone 3GS last night with no issues. Did a manual backup first just in case, but the whole process went off without a hitch, even though it was a LONG 90 minutes for each device.

As an IT guy that supports around 300 macs, I can tell you that you might want to go buy a lotto ticket if you haven't had problems with lion. Going from 10.6 to 10.7 was a worse downgrade than XP to Vista. There isn't enough space on this forum(yes I exaggerate from time to time) to list the problems with 10.7. 10.7.1 fixed a couple issues, and 10.7.2 just came out, so will be testing with it hopefully by end of day. My advice, stick with 10.6 for a while longer. In fact, the only reason some of our users have Lion, is because the new laptops come with it preloaded. I know Apple's philosophy is "We don't care what you want, in fact, we'll tell you what you want." But this was just absurd. They took away some of the most useful, time-saving functions in SL and replaced them with junk. I could go on, but unfortunately, I have more Lion problems to deal with.

On a more positive note, iOS 5 is "off the heezy".

What do you guys consider a "clean install"? This machine is 3 months old and the only apps we have installed are the Apple presentation creator and word processor (don't recall their real names).

On the first app hangup (after about 1 week of use) guy at the "Genius Bar" at the Apple store told us that "these things just happen.... here's how you kill the app".

I'm not exactly sure if it is 10.6 or 10.7 and I'm honestly not too concerned about it's behavior. We still love the little machine.

Putting a clean install on it is pretty much how our IT desk tells our remote workers to fix their Windows issues so I'd rather not start that trend on this little guy. I'll just see what future patches have to bring.

I really REALLY want one of those new MB Airs.

As an engineer and an IT professional I really appreciate the quality in these little machines They come with my highest recommendation. This is my daughter's 3rd laptop (1 dell, 1 IBM) and now you couldn't pry this new one out of her hands. Treat yourself to one. You deserve it!

I upgraded my phone about an hour ago (took about 2 hours to get the update downloaded). ALL of my apps that I've used over the last 2+ years are gone. I suppose that's my fault, because I regard the iTunes software as something like a virus, so it stays off my computer (I'm ont of those heretics that doesn't use my iPhone for music or videos, so iTunes on my computer is a complete waste of disk space). Apparently, there's no such thing as a centralized knowledge source at the App Store that knows what I've purchased/installed, so now I'm in the "guess that app" mode as I try to recoever 50+ apps, one-by-one

So, for all of you eager to upgrade: Make sure you are on the computer your iPhone is "tied" to, make sure you've done a full backup, and THEN upgrade.

P.S. -- Oddly, i'ts only the apps that got trashed. All my photos, notes, email setup, etc were all nicely preserved and ready when I finished upgrading.

Go to the App Store on your phone, then go to the Updates tab at the bottom. Then select "Purchased" which should be at the top of the list. That will let you download all of your previously purchased apps in one place.

Yup, you would THINK that's what should happen. Turns out it's ONLY showing me 18 crappy apps I bought 3 years ago, vs the 50+ apps I actually own. Not good.

So you upgraded on a different computer than you sync the phone with? If so, you probably got this message, that told you exactly what would happen:

Even then, if you have a relatively recent backup on the original computer that you use to sync your phone with, you can simply do a restore from that machine.

Are you sure you're logged in using the same Apple ID that you used to purchase the 50+ apps? If so, you definitely need to contact Apple. Actually, I think it would be the iTunes support that normally handles issues with purchases and Apple ID's. I know my Purchased list has everything I've downloaded from the very beginning.

That would be my guess too. I have mine tied to 3 accounts. Mine, my wife's, and a work account. I typically stay signed into my personal one, but if an update comes out for one of my paid work apps, then I have to log out of my personal account, and log into my work account in order to download the update. Have you purchased any app's under a different apple id?
