Most Awesome Thing You Will See Today (Part 1)

Post by Thomas »

Sure, maybe some of you have just seen videos of simple levitation of superconductors, but this takes it one step further:

The last minute is the most amazing IMO - when the superconductor is on the track.

This video demonstrates the locking of position and angle of the superconductor while it's in motion.

EDIT: Changed title to Part 1

The day? Other than taking my sister, niece, and daughter to the range for their first times, that might be the coolest thing I'll see all year.

That is pretty awesome. I'll make an exception for you ;-)

EDIT: Wow, I was so distracted by the video I didn't even understand what you had meant. I'm guessing you didn't take them to the range today, but that this just ranks #2 on coolest thing of the year.

Yup. I took all three of them to the range a few weeks ago. My sister has always been terrified of guns and it took about 9 years of me carrying around her and in her house to realize that's not going to jump out of its holster and go off. All three girls did great and my own daughter wanted to stay and keep shooting after three hours. My niece is trash talking me on her Facebook page telling everyone she out shot me. She didn't, but that's cool if it get's her back to the range and she does eventually out shoot me. I would be very proud of her if she did.

Nah, levitating a frozen hamburger pattie is not impressive. Let them try this. :smilelol5:

Of course it was cool -- it was frozen with liquid nitrogen! :biggrinjester:

The Greeks made use of steam for various odds and ends way back in the day, however, it took 2000 + years before somebody developed a viable product for industrial purposes.

I wonder how long it will take us to develop and make use of this potential technology...

Well, we went from the first powered flight of a heaver-than-air craft (1903) to supersonic flight in 44 years (1947).
And it only took a decade of effort to reach the moon (not that anybody's been there recently). The point is that technology is exploited MUCH faster these days.

It could be the NEW Mr. Freeze

EDIT TO ADD: As a side note, a good friend of mine from high school was the Vice President of design and development for Six Flags Theme Parks, overseeing all development, architecture, planning and ride and show design for its properties throughout the U.S. during the time the the Gotham City sections were built. The license plate numbers on the police cars in the mural are his kids birthdays. He also consulted to Warner Bros. Movie World Theme Parks for a lot of their rides in the mid-90's. Pretty cool job if you can get it. :-)

Here's a pretty detailed video of what is actually happening.

Why can't I get the video to be embedded in the post?

Palestinians make suicide bombs. Israelis make stuff like this.
If anyone is raped, beaten or murdered on a college campus from this day forward
The senators who blocked SB 354 from being considered on 4/7/11 and
The members of the house calendar committee who haven't scheduled HB 750
Have the victims' blood on their hands.
