George R Brown and Texas Ren Fest

Post by SewTexas »

heading to Houston in a couple of weeks for the quilt festival (my husbands worst nightmare  ) he'll actually come up later and we'll all go to the Ren Fest. wondering if we can carry to one or both? the 3006 website only mentions the Ren Fest as having a "no guns" sign but that was from Jan, so that might even be old info?

thanks
~Tracy

The GRB convention center is government property so 30.06 signs are not enforceable.

They "do not allow concealed weapons on Festival grounds" at TRF but I didn't see a 30.06 sign last year. But I would peace tie swords if you wear one. I heard they're doing a laser show instead of fireworks this year because of the drought. No clue if they will play Darke Syde Of Ye Moon.

So when the High Calibre Gun show post it's sign while in the GRB, it is NOT enforceable. Correct?

Not legally.

(e) It is an exception to the application of this section that the property on which the license holder carries a handgun is owned or leased by a governmental entity and is not a premises or other place on which the license holder is prohibited from carrying the handgun under Section 46.03 or 46.035.

We went to RenFest yesterday. Had a great time, big sign in the front regarding firearms, not a 30.06 or even closely resembling one. Plenty of LEO's on site too. Its become a nice place for the family, and as a bonus I got to play dress up (tights were not involved).

Great shows too, only a few rated PG-13, but plenty of family fun!

Someone needs to photograph the 'sign', I forgot, its painted on the left side of the entrance wall.

I'm glad it's tamed down, it was a bit wild when we were in college...by the time the kids came along, well, they got left with grandma, they've gone a couple of times now they're older, they've also gone to Waxahachie, it's always been more family friendly. You can tell they've worked hard to put some sanity back into it. I wonder how much money they were loosing in family business. But, the Festival has always had my heart...it was a special place when we were dating.

We did Ren Fest two weeks ago. Had a great time. Saw no 30.06 signs but did see two 51% signs in the Greek area near a couple of drinking establishments. :cheers2:
