Mini wireless keyboard & "mouse"

Post by A-R »

Just thought I'd give a quick "thumbs up" to a new product I tried at my last class that other instructors (or anyone who does a lot of PowerPoint presentations) might find useful:

It is a "mini wireless keyboard" from Lenovo, model N5901

Paid about $40 for it at Fry's

It's a tiny thumb-operated keyboard (like you'd use on a Blackberry or other "smart" phone), plus a little roller ball "mouse". After being less than impressed with a remote slide advancer my wife loaned me, I was looking for something that gave more full-function control but was still portable and wireless so I could be up and moving around the classroom as needed while advancing slides, starting video clips, etc.

Worked like a charm the first time. Runs wirelessly off a litle USB dongle.

I've been thinking about getting a mini keyboard and mouse device. I've had these links bookmarked for when I decide to purchase one.

http://www.amazon.com/CE-Compass-Wirele ... 004VPXLDI/ <- cheaper and better rating
http://www.amazon.com/88-Key-Wireless-M ... 003AXXOBG/ <- cheaper and same rating and Prime eligible
^^ same two products, different listings.
http://www.amazon.com/Rii-Wireless-Keyb ... 003UE52ME/ <- cheaper and same rating and Prime eligible
http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Pro-Wireles ... 003ZJEUBI/ <- more expensive and not as good rating

I haven't purchased one yet, but these are some more options for people to think about.

EDIT: Lenovo is a good brand though, and the Amazon link is prime eligible. Just to be fair

Cool gizmo but I've found little need for a keyboard during my classes. I picked up a Microsoft Wireless Presenter mouse and love it. http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wireles ... 750&sr=8-1

Small enough to fit in your pant pocket and connects via Bluetooth. Functions as a laser mouse on almost any surface, to include my leg while instructing. When in presenter mode, it controls PowerPoint slides, volume, blackout screen, and serves as a laser pointer. Good piece of gear.

The price listed on Amazon is a little on the high side. It can be found for around $50 elsewhere.
