I don't know if it's still true, but the local womens shelter used to ask for the old phones and chargers when you upgraded or replaced yours. They would hand them out to their clients and the children because the 911 feature worked even if the phone wasn't activated with a carrier. Anybody know if they still do that? I have a couple at home I would donate....... :confused5

Yes, also some "Boys and Girls clubs" and other service organizations do that. several orgs are doing it, example: http://www.911cellphonebank.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.911cellphonebank.org/donate.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.americancellphonedrive.org/c ... cy-911.cfm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Others:
http://www.google.com/search?q=911+phon ... 24&bih=636" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My phone came from such a place, it has a GPS in it for E-911 so if I fall off a cliff/ get stuck on a highway injured etc I can dial 911 and they can find me. It was an old 2003 model phone someone donated when they upgraded to a new fancy phone that does something else like surf the interwebs or something. So I got it free and bought a car charger thingamabob and extra battery. And if I'm quietly fishing in my kayak trying to call the Sheriff/Game Warden for help because someone with a boat dock/pier thinks they own the lake and whips out a shotgun [or zooms their powerboat around or disturbs the fish or kayak making waves] to chase people off legally fishing in the water close to their dock (it happens, some ultra-rich guy's house not far from here did that once, and was taught about the "Sportsmans Rights Act" http://www.animallaw.info/statutes/stus ... 2_0125.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; :mrgreen: ) ...and it falls in the lake ... I'm not out hundreds of dollars on a fancy phone.
