Will it work with a 22 upper or does it need more recoil?

I havent tried it with a .22 upper, but I would guess it does need more recoil.

How would it work for a left handed shooter? That finger rest for the trigger finger appears to be set up exclusively for right handers.

I don't see why it would need more recoil. You would just need to apply less forward pressure with your non shooting hand to mitigate the reduced recoil. The youtube comments said one guy tried a .22 upper and it wouldn't cycle. Someone else said it cycled fine with their M&P 15-22.
