Need advice on bolt action purchase.
Re: Need advice on bolt action purchase.
Does anyone know which modern actions are based on the Mauser action? Controlled feed, I think it is called? I've always heard about how reliable they are, so maybe I can figure that into the equation as well...I'm not ready to buy just yet, and I really want to do ALL my homework and get something I'm going to like and want to keep.

All Ruger bolt actions are controlled feed.Heartland Patriot wrote:Does anyone know which modern actions are based on the Mauser action? Controlled feed, I think it is called? Thank you. And I am a pretty big fan of Ruger products. Those that I do own seem to be very reliable and solidly built. I'd love to have the M77 Compact Magnum in .308 Win but its a bit out of my price range. The Annoyed Man wrote:All Ruger bolt actions are controlled feed.Heartland Patriot wrote:Does anyone know which modern actions are based on the Mauser action? It might be out of your price range right now, but one of these appeals to me. Notice that this is the export version, with a somewhat longer, stainless barrel.

The sooner I get behind, the more time I have to catch up.

Controlled feed means the extractor claw holds the round all the way so it can't fall out. It's not just a Mauser thing, not even all Mausers have it.

The Savage I have is push feed, and I believe Remingtons bolt guns as well.Bullwhip wrote:Most of them.Heartland Patriot wrote:Does anyone know which modern actions are based on the Mauser action? Controlled feed, I think it is called?

Sorry, the Karabiner 98k always comes to mind when I think of Mauser...and I had read that it was controlled feed.
