Post by Mr.ViperBoa »

I go to Parkland Hospital every now and then to deliver equipment, does anyone know when the posted a 30.06 sign? I never noticed it until this last week when I was out there. :confused5

...I was there in Oct to pick up someone from the psych ward, they were there...I put my guns in the car, but didn't reckon on the metal det. before the psych ward...the officer said "put your pockets in the bucket..." I asked him if he had a bigger bucket...started with my two empty clip-in holsters and it got fun after that...4 speed strips of .44, 3 .45 mags, and two keychains, 2 utility knives, tape measure, nailset, cellphone...pen, belt, flashlight...he laughed..."at least you left the guns in the car..." told me if I'd take the ammo back to the car, he wouldn't have to log it in and I'd save a trip to the substation to pick it up...when I got back, he said "I found some more ammo after you left...don't worry about it...just go on..." we both laughed...
...he was armed, as were the two in the hallway between him and the locked door to the holding facility/interview rooms...professional and friendly...

Parkland, a county hospital, prohibiting CHLs from carrying just irks me. We've had the discussion here at least once about them being a teaching hospital and I reject that reason. The university doesn't own or control the hospital. They just have an agreement with them. Nearly every hospital in the metroplex could then be considered a teaching hospital if they allow nursing students to do their rotations in them.

Speedsix, you guys didn't end up in a conversation about what you each carry? You might have been better armed than him.

Where did you see it? I'm guessing the main ER entrance?
I've never noticed one at Parkland before but then again I use a restricted access entrance that may not be posted for one reason or another.

...the only sign I saw at that entrance was to tell me that I was at the wrong entrance...and I turned around and went to the right one...

Indeed. If a company has college interns, that doesn't make the company a school. However, if they have metal detectors and armed guards, perhaps discretion is the better part of valor.

I doubt I would challenge it either, but it just irks me to no end. When I was at school at UTSWMC the hallways from the school into Parkland had no metal detectors and very little to mark where the school was and when the hospital started. I have actually never been through a metal detector when entering Parkland or Children's Hospital. And I've also been through the underground tunnels between the two.

When I first moved here in 2001 I went to Parkland to visit a church member and it was posted.

They also have metal detects and police in the E.R.

I don't remember what year it was, but I do remember there was a gang shooting in the ER that lead to the installation of the metal detectors and a bunch of bullet proof glass. I thought I had heard that both of those had been removed.
