The Maverik store chain was running a "Joe Schmo to Lambo" sweepstakes.
The man who won it picked it up on a Saturday, and wrecked it 6 hours later.
The above link is to a video news story out of Salt Lake City, UT.
The man's hometown of Santaquin is pronounced "Santa-Quinn".

Ouch... I'm reminded of hearing that a lot of lotto winners go bankrupt a year or two later because they don't know how to handle being rich and think the money will never run out.
At least nobody was injured.

I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

Income tax bill on winnings forthcoming ...The good news in all of this is that Dopp had insurance on the car

That's why on TV game shows shot in California, prizes like cars can be accepted by the contestant as the car's value in cash if so desired—which is what most contestants do—so that they don't have to pony up extra cash to cover the taxes. Otherwise, winning a prize can be a financial burden.RPB wrote:Income tax bill on winnings forthcoming ...The good news in all of this is that Dopp had insurance on the car

Speaking of losing control of your high HP ride, the above video is 57 seconds long
and shows 2 silver Corvettes crashing in The Woodlands, Texas.
FYI - The Woodlands is N.W. of Houston and Tomball, TX.

TAM, et al:
Your comment about the Cali car prizes not being on a burden on their owners reminds me
of the TV network that occasionally gives away dream homes.
IIRC, a man from Chicago, Illinois won one of these dream homes. It was on Lake Tyler,
near the City of Tyler, Smith County, Texas.
His family moved down to East Texas, lived in the house for a year, but could not pay the
huge property tax bill, and sold it. If anyone from East Texas or elsewhere can add more
details, be my guest.
TIA / SIA
