IDPA Reloading Question

Post by gwashorn »

I am shooting IDPA with my 9mm 1911 and love it. I am using subsonic 147gr Winchester Rangers and they work fine. However, I know many are loading some 147gr loads that are a bit slower and they feel it helps with the gaming for the score. I have not reloaded in many years but thinking of getting back into it. I know, cost per time and all that but if the loads do really help and I can save $$$, well that is good too. If I did not reload though, is there another option of anyone who sells for competition? I know Precision Delta sells reloading to many here and they have their own new and reloaded brass ammo. I have asked them what their power factor is but I have not gotten an answer back. Does anyone here order reloaded ammo that is loaded for lower power factors? Is there maybe a cost savings over the standard store costs? Just wanted to ask before diving back into reloading. thanks.

Hornady loads some "match" steel cased ammo that down loaded but still meets the power floor

There is no substitute for reloading your own, but some guys have had good things to say out Georgia Arms 9mm ammo for IDPA

I tried some 9mm Fiocchi 158gr sub-sonic FMJ, seemed to have a little less recoil.

+1 on reloading your own...you'll find that with shipping and hazmat fees, ordering from someone else doesn't always pan out financially. If you do decide to roll your own, I'd suggest Berry's plated 147gr for 9mm...that and som VV310 and you're good to go. :anamatedbanana

Well, I was using and still have the winchester 147gr subsonics for my 1911 9mm. very nice. but then got the bug to reload like my competition friends do and now use a Dillon 1050, Berry 147 gr bullets loaded down like the rest of many here. I will tell you for me it does make a difference and those I shoot with say the same. Very pleasant to shoot, fast double taps and reaquiring the target. As for cost, I buy locally here south of Houston and it cuts my cost, compared to ordering my winchester 147s online, in half. Time wise, the 1050 is fast to load but was not cheap. But it sure is fun and does a great job. As one of the shooters who loads the same as I do says when we shoot...sounds like "bunny farts". I have mixed my reloads with the factory loads in a magazine and you can feel and hear the difference big time.

I have not chronoed my loads yet. I am loading the same as the others, maybe a tad hotter. Tightgroup at 3.4 grs. I know some run 3.2 and have met the power requirements so I am sure mine will. But shoots nice and you have heard mine last time at the Arms Room IDPA. Now just need to go shoot some of them, a lot of them, lots and lots of them....
