Group builds ramp for local family

Summary: Local lumber store donated $2,000 worth of lumber/hardware ... matched by the org .... Volunteers from the org in about 3 counties show up to do the work ... 84 foot long ramp appears before the family gets the child home from the hospital .... surprise (Average ramp is shorter and takes $600 to $800 to build, and weeks to complete, this one needed to be longer due to house elevation/hill country/where they park etc ... but was finished fast ... labor and materials all donated)Christmas came early this year for the Green family when Tiffany and Ron Green of Burnet brought their two year-old son, Kiptyn, home from Dell Children’s Hospital on Dec. 23.
Kiptyn has been in and out of the hospital since birth due to a rare medical condition and the bigger he gets, the more assistance his family needed to get him inside the house.
"We knew the ramp was going to be built, but when we pulled up to the house, we were just overwhelmed with joy to see that it was completed and that the entire team was still there,” said Tiffany Green.

More at link aboveAUSTIN (KXAN) – For the past year, every time Don Broyles needed to get in or out of his home his daughter had to lift him and carry him down the stairs.
Broyles, an Army veteran, was injured in a service-related training accident some 20 years ago.
So for Veterans Day, several military folks volunteered to help out a comrade in need. On Friday, they pitched in to build a ramp so Broyles can come and go with a little more independence.
“There are a lot of ceremonies, salutes and parades and so forth,” said George Barnette, a veteran who is part of the Texas Ramps Project and helped organize the effort. “But we think this is a better way to observe the day, actually doing something for somebody that needs it.”
Broyles’ daughter, Tara, said her family salutes the volunteers who came to help her dad.
