What do you do if confronted about carrying.

Hi all,

Newbie question here. What would you guys do if you were confronted about carrying in a place that just had a ghostbuster or some other non-legal sign? For instance an employee or patron in a store happens to somehow figure out your carrying. What do you say to them?

Newbie question here. What would you guys do if you were confronted about carrying in a place that just had a ghostbuster or some other non-legal sign? For instance an employee or patron in a store happens to somehow figure out your carrying. What do you say to them?

If it's an employee, you've then been given a verbal warning about carrying and could be arrested for criminal trespassing if you don't leave.

If it's a patron, "That's not a gun, it's [choose one: my work cell phone, my insulin pump (always a good one), a flashlight]"

The much more accurate answer, however, is that nobody notices. Seriously, this is a common "beginner" concern (even I had it), but the real answer is that people just don't get "outed" unless it's blatant exposure (and even then most folks don't say anything). Heck, employees won't even say something to you unless a customer complains. I've never heard of such an incident either.

Gunbuster signs are in place to pacify the scared bunnies.

If you are carrying correctly, you will not be "outed".

Worst case, your cover garment rides waaaay up, your gun is uncovered and somebody sees it....
You glance at each other and you see the look of horror and worry on their face....
Clearly they're thinking.... "Is he gonna kill me?"

Just smile (politely, not uncomfortably like Charlie Manson) and say....
"Sorry about that, I have a license to carry it, it is Texas after all. Have a nice day"

Then just stroll away like nothing happened.
If you get the feeling like the observed weapon is gonna cause a big fuss, just leave. Calmly.

Try not to worry.... with a minimal amount of care, only you will know you have it.

Thanks for the info guys. I guess I am worrying for nothing. I keep envisioning a scenario where I am in a store and a manager walks up to me and says something like " I can see by the bulge in your shirt your carrying a gun and we have a sign posted out front so I called the police". Silly I know, I guess it just takes some getting used to.

As everybody on here says, that doesn't happen. IF it does happen, you are not breaking any law _until_ you're verbally told to leave. If they called the police and didn't say anything to you, they would just stare at the owner and say, "What did he do wrong?"

Again, nothing to worry about. Longtooth's 4 rules of carry are dead-on. Personally, I rather like taking my CC gun into a "gunbusters-signed" area, kind of my way of thumbing my nose at The Man.

Unless he actually sees the gun, he has seen nothing. You can say, "that's my insulin pump....do you still want me to leave? If I do, the American Association of Diabetics (I have no idea if there is such an organization) is going to learn that your business is unfriendly to diabetics. That's a lot of business to lose. Are you sure you want to go there?" If he insists that you show him your pump, you insist that he show you what's in his underwear to prove he's not really a girl passing as a man. Say something like, "that's pretty personal and pushy of you. I guess you don't want our business. You'll be hearing from our attorney;" then watch him apologize profusely and beg you not to leave. Leave anyway, having had the satisfaction of knowing that he'll never do that to someone else again, and go give your purchasing dollars to a company not run by officious little twits who are afraid of everybody who walks into their store.

Just as a side note there is an organization, it is the American Diabetes Association. I lost my Dad to complications due to Type I Diabetes. This organization is a great resource for those and their families facing diabetic issues.

Funny thing is, in my case, I have a medic alert necklace that shows I have diabetes. Of course, it's the extremely rare Diabetes Insipidus (true story), so it's completely unrelated to insulin/sugar/etc, but they won't know that
