Newbie question here. What would you guys do if you were confronted about carrying in a place that just had a ghostbuster or some other non-legal sign? For instance an employee or patron in a store happens to somehow figure out your carrying. What do you say to them?
I don't know exactly what I would say without knowing exactly the situation.

However, in essence it's going to be similar to what I would say if someone confronted me about cheering for the crimson tide or driving a "foreign" car.

Plus a dose of embarassment for doing such a bad job concealing. :biggrinjester:

Not so much to the OP, but just throwing it out there in general...I believe I've heard several someones say (a time or two, at least): CONCEALED MEANS CONCEALED...sorry, but I just couldn't resist!

MoJoeWrkn wrote:Thanks for the info guys. I guess I am worrying for nothing. I keep envisioning a scenario where I am in a store and a manager walks up to me and says something like " I can see by the bulge in your shirt your carrying a gun and we have a sign posted out front so I called the police". Silly I know, I guess it just takes some getting used to.
I was just like you some odd months ago...new to having my CHL and paranoid about someone figuring out that I had "it" on me and freaking out/calling law enforcement. Well, since then, I've carried all over the Metroplex, down to North Houston and a few other areas...even went to Florida...not one issue. This forum is a great place and these are some pretty knowledgeable folks. Pretty soon you'll get used to carrying, too. Welcome to the forum, be safe, and have a good one.

After carrying a while, you'll start to be amazed at what the public does NOT see. I've had several times where I should have been seen, and never have. It's gotten to the point where I'm so confident that I will not be seen, that I have to be extra cautious now because at times, I've gotten a little careless at my concealment.

If someone were to ask me if I were carrying a gun (ouside the "official" situations) I'd answer with a question:

Other: "Is that a GUN???"
Me: Is that a THONG???

Want to help change my colostomy bag? It must be almost overflowing if it's bulging ... come help and hold your nose ... got any rubber gloves in case it spills?

It's an emergency ventilator which in an emergency helps me to keep breathing ....

But seriously ...

I would start speaking really loudly it's none of his business what's inside my pants and I find it inappropriate for him to ask.

Granted this might get me written up a work, but if he pushed the issue I would just tuck my shirt around my pistol, badge and cuff carrier (assuming I'm loaded up w all that) and look at him.

You could always just whisper that you are trying not to get outed and you're there for important business.

I understand what you as an LEO with a badge mean by ""trying not to get outed" but if someone is checking my pants that closely for bulges I think I might choose different words ... the top sentence you wrote might get him "outed"

Also, even if your shirt rides up and clearly exposes you gun, if you act like your supposed to have it you'll be fine. Most people will just assume your a police officer or something to that effect. Especially if you have a holster. Most gangsters and/or robbers don't actually holster their handguns.

We were going into Legends for a burger today and I was wearing my usual old beat up denim shirt over a Tee. A gust of wind came up and blew my shirt wide open, kinda' like that Marilyn Monroe poster of yore. Everybody around us could see my SA Compact 1911 on my hip. Best I could tell, no one cared - not even me and Mrs. Oldgringo.

Folk, it ain't that big a deal UNLESS you're somehow trying to draw attention or otherwise look and act guilty.
