Is she suing him for an arm and a leg?

As despicable as that woman is there are many people that agree with her. They all probably voted for The Obamanation.
Now, I doubt there's really anything for her to get. The deceased was 18 and that makes him an adult. So, I doubt she will be able to get anything from his parents or siblings. I don't think parents can be held liable for a child's debt if the child was not a minor. Unless this man had somehow made a fortune this woman can tap into or was married for the widow to no be responsible I just don't think that greedy heartless woman will get a dime from the dead man's "estate."

Re: Dead teen sued by woman hit by his flying body parts
I'm not sure if this could play in, but there are those "professional sue-ers" out there. Maybe this woman is one of them and somehow figured out how to set some sort of precedence with this thing...with a payoff down the road? Otherwise, it just doesn't make any sense. Any Illinois folks on here? Can the court force the taxpayers to pick up the tab, or anything like that?MedicMan218 wrote:Let's hope notC-dub wrote: just don't think that greedy heartless woman will get a dime from the dead man's "estate."

Devils advocate here...
With the cost of health care these days, perhaps the lady did not have the funds to repair her injuries, or they put a large financial strain on her and her family. Just because the teen lost his life means he's no longer negligent and culpable for the injuries his negligence caused? A sad story yes, but what is not mentioned is the circumstances in the woman’s life or the grief and hardships caused by the teen’s negligence. The article does not specify what the woman is hoping to gain, but merely sensationalizes one side of the story to make the other appear heinous and cold. Biased journalism at best.

Re: Dead teen sued by woman hit by his flying body parts
When my dad was on Iwo, in the opening minutes of the particular battle in which he fought, a mortar round blew apart a guy who was just a few feet away from my dad. A piece of meat from poor guy's body hit another guy next to my dad, hard enough to drive the guy face down into the dirt. Naturally, assuming that he had been hit by shrapnel from the blast, the guy reached around behind himself and felt a red gooey mass of flesh on his back and pulls back a bloody hand—and assuming it was his own, he started freaking out. My dad had to wipe the mess off of him, convince him that he wasn't hurt and calm him down and get him back into the fight. I've never forgotten that story.
I'm pretty much with 7075-T7. I have sympathy for dead boy's family, but it was his irresponsibility that caused severe injury to the woman who is suing, and people do have a legitimate right to be made whole through litigation when they are injured by another party's irresponsibility. If the other party was killed as a result of their own irresponsibility, that doesn't change one iota whether or not the injured second party has a right to sue, or whether or not it is the right thingo to do. When a drunk driver causes an accident in which he is killed and someone else is injured, nobody questions the injured party's right to sue the drunk driver's estate to recover damages. That is one of the prices of irresponsibility—even when the irresponsible party is a minor.
If the boy had been carrying an object, say his bicycle, across those tracks and he had dropped the bike and ran, made it out of there alive, but the train had struck the bike, flinging it onto the platform and knocking the woman down with the same injuries, nobody would question her right to sue the boy to recover the cost of her injuries which were entirely not her fault, and entirelyy his fault.
The dead boy's estate likely consists of whatever life insurance his parents had on him plus a bag of marbles in his dresser drawer. Maybe suing his estate was an attempt to recover damages, without suing his parents directly because she had some sympathy for their own grief. I guess I'm saying that, while it does sound creepy, we shouldn't be too quick to judge her.

Correct me if I am wrong, but since he was 18, she HAS to sue his estate and not the parents because he was an adult. The Annoyed Man wrote:When my dad was on Iwo, in the opening minutes of the particular battle in which he fought, a mortar round blew apart a guy who was just a few feet away from my dad. We had been tasked to clear a very long route to a location US forces had not been in for several years, and then using a concept from the Marines, set up a company sized base of operations for a 72 hour mission… We stayed for several months, but that’s another Story.
It was US only OP, we Air Assaulted in, and had a Ground force come in after securing the village area. Those Iraqis were local folks coined “Sons Of Iraq” or SOI that are hired to “secure” their villages, or wider areas sometimes, key infrastructure ect, bridges, buildings.
That SOI in the vid, followed the ground forces in. They were not from the area, not hired and tasked to clear IED’s, or even be in that area, they came on their own to “:Help the Americans” In the Areas my company worked that rotation,, the people wanted the insurgents gone, they wanted to work, they wanted peace. Those guys came to help.. We had just finished clearing the buildings, and were doing a rest / security/ water halt.. I had the vehicles come forward the last 2 K’s ..The commander on the other side of the road and down a few hundred meters.. I was the guy at the back of the top HMMWV at 1:05 or so, in the back getting water for my RTO and other buddy, off in the tree line.. those volunteers came down the road, drove around the rear security vehicle, and stopped inside the perimeter, they noticed the tale tell signs of a buried jug of HME (or may have known it was there, yesterdays fighters is today’s friend, just the way it works here) I stopped counting how many lightly buried bodies and IEds we had found and cleared up to that point.. .. we were working our way back towards where the Iraqis were coming up, so had not yet cleared that part of the road.. they found the IEd and tried to dig it up. The HME being used at that time was very unstable.. you can see the results.
Myself, my gunner, my RTO, were covered in little bits, and pelted with hunks. It was a long day….. The ones not killed, about 8 more, came back hours later, after taking what they could find to families, and took up positions to help secure the village. . I hope they survived the passing years, there leader was a crook, Abu Zakaria, but most of his men where in it for the right reasons
