WTB: Youth Shotgun (28g or 20g)

Post by AggieMM »

One of my goals for 2012 is to introduce my daughter to skeet/trap shooting, with the goal of taking her dove hunting with me in the future. I am looking for a 28g or 20g youth model semi-auto shotgun. If you have one in your safe collecting dust, let me know if you're interested in parting with it. Thanks.

Been thinking about this also. My 12-yo daughter shot trap for the first time a couple weekends ago and loved it... Use my old 20ga pump I had when I was a kid. So I'm thinking a 20ga semi-auto would fit the bill. But...

Would it be better to get youth-sized gun (shorter bbl) or a full-sized gun, and hunt-down/make a youth-sized stock for it?
If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my children will have peace.

I'd get the youth 20 if it was a boy. I have an old single shot .410 that I shot my first quail with. Both my boy and girl are gonna start out with it before I introduce them to a 20.

Been shooting skeet with my 11 yr old daughter since June. She shoots an old Winchester 120 pump 20 gauge. I found a youth barrel on gunbroker and it really made a difference. She had a hard time holding & swinging that 28 in barrel. The youth is 20inches and she handles it real well. She's hitting 12-15 consistently and is running me out of shells. My advice FWIW is to get a youth size gun (or at least find a short barrel) in 20ga mainly because shells are easier to find. It will take awhile for her to get the hang of just holding and swinging the gun. If she tops out at 5'5" and is of small frame, she can use that gun forever.
