Second Day of Concealed Carry!
Today was my second day to carry concealed with a CHL. It was relatively warm today, so I used my WRB "cell-phone" gun pack. A jacket would have been out of place and I normally wear my shirts tucked in. I didn't want to suddenly dress differently when I met with my long-standing lunch group.
1:00 Had a late lunch with my three lunch buddies. One is a Hoplophobe and two are totally against an individual's RKBA. In spite of the fact that we have been having lunch together for nearly twenty years, they were totally oblivious. That is just how I plan to keep it.
2:30 went by CVS Pharmacy and picked up prescriptions for myself and my wife.
3:00 went to Kinkos and copied Genealogical Records for over an hour.
4:15 went to HEB grocery, which was very crowded. I grabbed a basket and headed in when I saw "white" printing in English and Spanish on the window behind a trash can. My first reaction was "Oh no! This place is prohibited." As I read the sign, it was an "unlicensed possession of a weapon" sign. So, with a smile on my face, I went on in. I picked up items from high, low, and in-between with no problems. At first, I was really aware that I was wearing my XD 9mm SC. It felt like a two-pound brick on my belt. I was sure everyone was staring at it. I expected someone in the grocery store to yell, "Man with a gun!" However, I don't think a single person gave my "cell phone" case a second glance. It was all in my head.
5:00 home safe and sound .
So my second all-day carry was totally uneventful. After my first day of carrying yesterday, which resulted in a traffic stop and being "interviewed" by a BG at a filling station, I was glad that it seemed to be just a normal day. However, I did notice that I was on high yellow alert the whole day. Carrying a handgun had the effect of raising my "Situational Awareness." That, in and of itself, is a good thing. I felt safer than I have in many years. My next goal to use my IWB holster

I don't fear guns; I fear voters and politicians that fear guns.

Be careful over there. Don't ask. Well, I am certain you already know...DLBConductor wrote: 2:30 went by CVS Pharmacy and picked up prescriptions for myself and my wife.
Interesting stuff. Turns out one of my great-great-greats was with Andy Jackson down in New Orleans.DLBConductor wrote: 3:00 went to Kinkos and copied Genealogical Records for over an hour.

Excellent! We drove down to Stagecoach Inn yesterday and went shopping. Carrying is comforting although having a 1911 becoming best chums with a kidney is a bit grueling.DLBConductor wrote: 5:00 home safe and sound .

After you carry for a while, it is just like having your wallet in your back pocket. It's just natural.

WRB calls it a "Deceiver" case. It looks like a cell phone case but holds a small pistol instead. It is a pouch with a Velcro flap on the front. It has a clip belt attachment.austin-tatious wrote:Educate me...what is a "WRB "cell-phone" gun pack"?

Congratulations on your second day and no "events"!

Actually, I believe it is called a 'Pretender'. I have a few WRB pocket holsters. I have also bought a lot of Don Hume products from them. Bill is a great guy to deal with, He even custom-built me a pocket setup with an front cover for my Kahr PM9 when they first hit the market. They are usually at most gun shows.

Re: Second Day of Concealed Carry!
The WRB holster I got is plain and really is called "Deceiver." The CHL instructor had them available for purchase and they came in two sizes. The one I bought holds my SA XD9mm sub-compact. It has a Velcro closer rather than snaps. I did not find the Velcro version on the WRB site. The closest model was the "Deceiver" with the snap enclosure.Keith B wrote:Actually, I believe it is called a 'Pretender'. The "Pretender" really does have an actual cell phone case! Both are great ways to carry. Thanks for the additional information.

Re: Second Day of Concealed Carry!
Glad your day went normal.
As everyone has said before me, the feeling of you carrying will go away. You take your pistol with you as if it were your watch, wallet, wife (:P), etc..
Oh, and remember.. no one notices. NO ONE. Unless you are truly exposing yourself. If you wear an OWB, then always check your shirt to feel it's over your weapon and it is not exposed.
Make sure when you go to the restroom to use a stall. Do not go to the urinal like the old days.. lol.
It'll become natural. I guarantee it.
