I wasn’t there but-

Picture of small woman on the ground on her knees and two officers behind her with her arms pulled up in a painful position, doesn’t look good.

Officer has Buehler against the truck, Buehler’s arms outstretched and the officers hands at Buehler’s throat, doesn’t look good.

The chief reviewed the dash cam footage. When will it be made public?

Had I been present, there would have been much better video of the whole situation and not from across the street. I would not have said anything or got involved.

Police officers need to realize they are subject to being photographed and/or video recorded while in public at any time. Cell phones have still, and video cameras. The solution is for officers to conduct themselves in a professional manner or, after something like this, go around and check everyone’s cell phone in sight.

The up side for LE is that video taken by a bystander could exonerate an officer from excessive force charges or prove a justified shoot.

Just my opinion.
God Bless America, and please hurry.
When I was young I knew all the answers. When I got older I started to realize I just hadn’t quite understood the questions.-Me

About the headline.... I've found, both in my military service, active and reserve, and in civilian life as welll... having a ring as a military academy graduate does not necessarily equate to being able to apply common sense in all things endeavored.

Have met lots of military academy grads that I greatly respect, but have also met some that had no business being where they were!

I don't believe they have the right to do that.

The same could be said for almost any occupation. Including Leo's. There are good Leo's, Leo's that have an Authoritarian Complex, Leo's that
commit crimes etc. There are some that slip through the cracks, no matter what their title or accomplishments. I'm waiting for more evidence
(dash cam, other observers statements etc) before deciding which side I'm on in this instance.

Drunken floozie doesn't cooperate with LEO's and screams and cries when forced to comply with said LEO's?

Shocking, I say!

Austin isn't a hostile combat zone so your point is ridiculous.

Hyperbole and double standards aside, if a driver refuses to get out of the vehicle during a traffic stop, are police allowed to extract the driver from the vehicle?

I would certainly think so, but in this case it was the passenger not the driver if read it right. There's a lot of information and facts that are unknown here so it will take time before we'll know if the guy deserved what he got or officer's were out of line but the passenger was the one he was videoing.

Maybe the headline refers to West Point's Cadet Honor Code:

just my .02

I think the points about him being a West Point Graduate, a Ranger, a Stanford graduate and a middle school teacher all go a long way to demonstrate his character. He is apparently a solid citizen and not some punk trouble maker. I really have a hard time picturing someone with that background spitting in an officer's face. Someone with that sort of attitude would never have made it through the first year of West Point or 2 minutes into Ranger school.

It also appears to me that he acted quite passively to the officers efforts to take him down and that if he had so chosen, he could have easily taken the officer down instead.

No one backs the blue more than I do, they do a necessary and very tough, thankless job - but occasionally a real jerk makes it onto the force. A lot get weeded out, some hang on. My ex brother-in-law was a Sherriff's deputy for about 5 years before eventually getting busted out. He loved to push people around and crack their heads, especially minorities. I still remember a quote by a long time Houston police chief. He was being interviewed after another scandal with a police shooting and a throw-down gun. He said his problem was he had to recruit from the human race.

If I was picked for the jury in Buehler's case - he almost certainly would walk.

I didn't even realize this topic made it on the board. The victim / subject is actually my big brother. It's May now, and the case hasn't even made it to the Grand (not so) Jury yet. APD and the DA seem to be delaying the inevitability that Officer Oborski filed a false police report (he never realized video from across the street captured his actions). Sadly, this is not uncommon with APD abuse cases (from what I am hearing), as they attempt to let the outrage settle greatly before dismissing charges so they are not exposed as the less than professional gang of Keystone Cops which they are increasingly being viewed. Maybe its time APD cleans house, starting with their chief of police who has allowed the level of professionalism, discipline, and honor drop so precipitously. After that, they should rid themselves of all the bad seeds, leaving only the honorable in place (hopefully there is a core of good ones to draw from) to foster the next generation of peace officers.

Texas Tech beat Texas in Austin. (A pretty rare thing.) I was there as part of the Goin' Band.
We partied down on 6th St. Had a great time!!
Saw nothing to really worry me. (But I was there with 400 of my closest friends.)
Of course, that was 22+ years ago. I suppose things may have changed.
