Looking for a Shooting vest

I am looking for something light that I can throw on as a coverup when I am carrying OWB. I like the 5.11 but not going to fork out $70 for it. Any ideas?

Look around on the various auction sites. I found a 5.11 vest that was practically brand new for under $30. Good luck!

You might try thrift shops as well. You will find all kinds of leather and three piece suit vests. I'm sure you'll find something that will work.

I found a SigArms vest on sale from a Gunbroker dealer that I really like but it's a bit too utilitarian for running around town with. It's got like a million pockets which are great on the IDPA course, but a bit cumbersome otherwise.

I've been cruising the thrift shops and I see all kinds of vests but the trick of course is finding one that fits.

I see you are in Cibolo. There is a thrift store at the Catholic church in New Braunfels, the one just off the main circle downtown. It is open daytime Tue-Fri, I believe (definitely not Monday). They have a lot of nice men's clothes in very good condition, and very cheap. Like $5 is upper end of price range.

I don't specifically recall vests, cuz I haven't looked for one, but if you have reason to go towards NB, it is worth checking out.

I have also bought some very good luggage and carry-on bags there, practically new and in great shape, for a couple or three bucks.

I liked this one (now sold out) so much that I bought four of them. It is heavier construction, so better suited to cooler temps.

I agree with TDDude -- I have found many Western-style vests in thrift shops that are less than $20 that fit the bill. Sport coats also can be had. In fact, I have been dressing much "smarter" that wife and MIL have favorably commented. They think it is because I dropped 27 kilo, rather than gained one.

While I do not wear OWB -- the amount of coverage can be had for little money.

Just beware the leather vests with laces -- unless you are of the biker sort.

In the winter.. when wearing boots and jeans.. I usually wear a carhart vest. Summer.. I'm not really sure. Some of my polo shirts sit fine over a gun OWB... but as a general rule in the summer I carry IWB and pocket almost exclusively.

I really like the concept of a vest, especially in cool weather, but to me wearing a vest in the summer with a short sleeve shirt I kinda equate to a fanny pack which I will use once in awhile. From what I have read most people seem to think a fanny pack screams gun, so I wonder, in the summer time, do you all think a vest might scream gun?

Back on topic, I have a vest by Royal Robbins which really gets the job done but it is a little pricey. I have worn it on occasion in the summer but it felt kinda weird walking around in 100+ degree temps.

In the summer I carry IWB with a baggy untucked shirt. I need something for when I get off duty and have to go from OC to CC if I have to stop somewhere after work. Throwing on a Hawaiian style shirt with black duty pants and boots would look really weird!

You are right about the Hawaiian shirt. Did not know it was a transition from on duty to off duty.
