What full auto would you consider and why?

Of the guns I've shot in full auto, I'd have to say the M60E4 was the most fun, followed by the MP5, then UZI, then M16. Sten was uncomfortable and Thompson was heavy

Of the ones I HAVEN'T shot and will probably never own unless I become a dealer... Kriss Super V and P90. I've heard VERY good things about the full auto Super V but I can't see how a semi-auto one is much of an improvement over any other carbine in the same caliber.

The title says it all. I am considering a purchase, and know there are many educated opinions here.

If you are buying a full auto for self-defense... don't. It is not practical and downright dangerous if you have bystanders or hostage situations. Even the U.S. armed forces is moving away from full auto and now prefers a 3 round burst. It also wastes ammo.

However, if you are considering buying one as an INVESTMENT, then consider buying a working Gatling gun in pristine condition. These things are rare and has always appreciated in value. They no longer make them, so they're only going to get more rare. The M16 is an awful choice. They are everywhere and plentiful. They still make them. They will probably go down in value.

True, they are still manufactured, however; only the few registered with the ATF as Class III firearms before May 1986 are available for civilian purchase. Here is a handy website that tracks trends in machine gun prices.

Personally I wouldn't use ANY full auto capable weapon for a home defense tool.

I wouldn't mind a BAR (M1918), but that's just out of a general fondness for its cousins the Browning A5 & Stevens 520 shotguns. Likely due to my dad's old 16 gauge 520a that I put several hundred rounds through growing up.

IME/IMO anything full auto with a magazine has no advantage over its semiauto counterpart when it comes to self defense.

Full auto becomes an advantage when its belt fed and used to stop human wave/massed attacks. So for me if I were to ever win the lottery, the M249 SAW (Very few transferable examples out there from what I understand) would probably be my first choice. High cyclic rate, relatively cheap to feed, can be operated by one person, and will also take 30 round M16 magazines in an emergency.
