That's right....Los Angeles County, California, has enacted a new ordinance making it punishable by a $1,000.00 fine to throw a football or a frisbee on a county beach.

The restriction is for Memorial Day or Labor Day weekends. The good news is that you can obtain a permit to throw a football or a frisbee in a "designated area."

I am sooooooooo glad that I don't live there anymore. And I don't really care about footballs and frisbees, but I don't want to live in a place where the government thinks it needs to micromanage my behavior.

That is one lesson I really had driven home to me the years I worked in DC and lived in Maryland. It was like a close-up laboratory study of liberal culture and behavior. What I ended up realizing was that you can name any human condition, and a liberal thinks passing a law to govern it is a good idea.

The article seemed to imply it was "both and" rather than "from to." At least that is how I originally saw it. But I just now went back and read it, and you are right it is "from to." Either way, it is monumentally stupid in the way that only California and North Korea are capable of being.

I think that you might care about the football or frisbee that hit you up side the head when you weren't looking. Otherwise, you are right...as usual.

I've actually been hit by both....on a beach. It's not the end of the world. It's just a bit of harmless fun in the form of a game of catch, that, at worst, spills your beer. And of course, as the state got more crowded, it probably happened more frequently. But, the state has been getting less crowded every year since 2005. Why pass a law now? The main thing for me though (beyond the lack of a real problem) is that the County feels the need to micromanage its subjects' behavior so minutely. It's not enough that they want you to restrict your football/frisbee tossing to a designated area—which on the face of it isn't really a terrible idea—but they require you acquire a permit to throw said ball or frisbee in said designated area. What monumental stupidity. How......North Korean of them.

The licensing or permitting authority under this subsection shall be pursuant to and consistent with the delegation and related provisions of California Government Code section 25537, except that the maximum monthly rental amount for any license or permit issued pursuant to this subsection shall be $15.00.

So, not only do you have to use a designated area to throw a frisbee, but you have to have a permit, and that permit will cost you as much as $15.00 per month. I could tell you first hand horror stories of dealing with California politics.
