Hi, you are such a major influence and loving part of my mums life for such a long time I thought it was only fitting
I write to you now to update you on some sad news about my mum.
She is currently in Royal Adelaide Hospital, East Wing, ward A7.
On Wednesday of this week around 2am Adelaide time mum rang me (in Sydney) and was very frightened and crying because she did not know what was happening to her. I could tell something was very wrong and an ambulance was arranged and rushed her to hospital. Doctors did some tests and found a large blood clot in her left main artery of her neck and rushed her to theatre to remove the clot. I arrived in Adelaide after she came out of the operation (around midday Wednesday) and she was groggy but so very happy to see me.
That night she suffered a major bleed and was rushed in for a second operation to fix. After she recovered and was back in the ward (Thursday lunchtime) mum was talking really silly but would stop look at me and we would talk normally and she seemed happy but very tired. Then she would start to talk a bit funny again, a bit like a child. As this did not seem normal the doctors examined her and concluded after the second operation she had another stroke and after a CT scan found damage to her frontal lobe.
Sometime on Thursday night mum suffered a third stroke that has now left her unable to talk plus she can not see as her eyes do not respond to light. She has very little response to the doctors during examinations.
She will most likely never be able to go home again as she will now need 24 hour nursing care or palliative care. Just waiting on the stroke team to finish assessing her to decide the best place to care for her needs. They will give a view of her chances of recovery if any. They also said if she has another stroke her body may not cope and she may pass on.
At the moment me and my brother are waiting on the specialist teams advice while they conclude assessing her condition.
This is all I know at this stage. Will update when I know more.
Robert
