old eyes

I was also suffering from 'tired eyes'. At dusk and beyond, it was difficult to read street signs. It got to the point that I tried to not drive after 6:00 PM unless really necessary.

At my last eye exam, just over six months ago, I was told that I had cataracts, and it was time to do something about it. They no longer do both eyes at the same time, usually wait 30 to 60 days between procedures. It was decided that my left eye would go first. Not sure how this is decided, but the surgeon made the decision. Being an old fart, paying onto social security for over 50 years, it did not cost me a great deal. Roughly about fifty bucks per eye.

My 'patch/protection' was removed the following day, and I could see. I mean really see. I had not seen this well without glasses/contacts since I was about 14 years old. This was a new world.

About 45 days later, the did the right eye. Same dollar amount, almost as good results. I have been shooting for over 60 years, right eye dominant. The right eye has a small bit of 'fuzzy' at over 30 feet, and drives me crazy. I sure wish the right was as good as the left.

I do not want to wear glasses again. It is unbelieveable how much more freedom you have with them. My biggest problem is getting over wearing glasses. Whenever I pull a shirt over my head, I automatically reach up to take my glasses off. I hope I get over this as time passes.

I have been trying to shoot using my left eye, and it is not working out too well. This is for pistols only of course. I am on my third defib/pacemaker device, and it is HIGHLY suggested that I not shoot any rifles over .22 due to recoil.

Fear and common sense made me take this advise very seriously. Long ago and far away I was a world class rifle shooter. Got a few chunks of 14k, and was invited to the olympic tryouts for the 1964 summer games. Being a young and cocky (and stupid) smart ass, I passed.

I just got sights I could see. http://www.advantagetactical.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and explained to the eye doctor what I needed (took a small print song book to show the arm's length distances as book angled away for top line(front sight) /bottom line (rear sight)

I had all of the above and did have surgery to remove the cataracts and get inter-ocular implants. My opthamologist suggested multi-focus lenses and told me I would not have to wear glasses. I am still wearing glasses since I can't see with the wonderful lens he recommended plus at night I have what looks like 30 concentric rings of light emanating from every light source in my vision. At least it looks like a target The other option is usually one near and one far implant which I wish I had chosen. I informed him that I shoot and he assured me what I was getting for a great deal of extra expense would be just the ticket.

Bigger sights

I think you have made the right decision.
My thought is to play the cards your are dealt. Putting your hope of outcome in someone's hands is a very risky choice (IMO). Make necessary adjustments that are OUTSIDE of your body (which are difficult/impossible to replace/repair).

Bigger sights

Reviews from others who call them "old man sights" etc lol

Thing about ATS Advantage Tactical Sights is:
They are easier to see
(not really much "bigger" if they are bigger at all)
They are multi-angled/sloped so they don't unintentionally snag

I guess what I mean is: hard to explain and my photos don't do much better, you have to see them in person but
they are sloped so they look "bigger" in that there is more top/angled surface area, though they aren't a lot "taller"

And it's not hard to "make a triangle"

Thanks for the heads up. I think this is a real option worth looking into for some of the older, errr, more senior & distinguished members of the forum like myself.
