crossbreed type hosters on ebay...are they worth it?

Post by CheckonChico »

Ok I've decided on looking for a holster for my g26 that will arrive in a few weeks. I really like the reviews of the crossbreed holster and came upon these "crossbreed type" on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/IWB-Holster-Cro ... 4cfcc4596c" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They are much cheaper than the original and the seller's feedback on the holsters are excellent! Does anyone have any experience with these and what are your thoughts? I just wanna know if its worth all the $$$ ill save with buying this other than the original, plus they look almost identical.

I'd stick with Crossbreed or Comp-Tac. I think they're worth the extra money.

Crossbreed is a very simple design, easily mimicked. I've made a few myself.

That said, the one in the link provided the leather backing is considerably larger than Crossbreed (notice space between edge of kydex and each belt clip and compare) and Crossbreed itself is larger than Comp Tac Minotaur. I've personally found the slightly smaller dimensions and softer leather of the Comp Tac design more comfortable - but some find exact opposite (personal preference).

Also judging from linked photo alone, appears holster is made of untreated cowhide. No problem, I make mine same way. But Crossbreed does come in stained/oiled cowhide or raw horsehide - both supposedly slightly better moisture barrier than raw cowhide to keep sweat from bleeding thru to your gun (personally I haven't noticed a huge difference as I sweat like a pig in summer and my gun gets wet even in a horsehide holster.

Quality wise - again judging just from photos - cant see anything that concerns me. The strength and thickness of the kydex itself and the rivets are the most important factors (and neither can be determined conclusively from photo). Does appear to use standard metal spring clips, which are better and more durable than the clips molded in kydex by amateur means (as an aside, Comp Tac's machine formed kydex clips do ok, but do wear out eventually, but clips simply heat formed from strips of kydex break rather quickly - metal clips are strongest and most durable, but can scratch leather belts and do wear out eventually too when the spring steel loses its shape).

I also think they lack photos, I'm gonna message him and see if he can send me a photo of the other side to see the rivets. Thanks for your input.

Just remember, knock-offs are usually cheaper because they are made cheaper. The biggest reason I will never buy a Crossbreed knock-off is not only because the holster is of excellent quality and workmanship, but their customer support is top notch! Plus, the Crossbreed comes with a lifetime warranty.

Here's an example of their excellent support. I had some of the Velcro coming off of my belt for my SuperTuck v-clips. I emailed them to ask about acquiring some new strips and within 2 days had some Velcro strips in the mailbox, no charge. :thumbs2:

So, that type of support and willingness to stand behind their product has made me a dedicated customer for life. :hurry:

Thanks for your input, I've never owned a crossbreed product but have heard nothing but great things, other than the shipping time. I will consider your experience in making my decision, thanks!

The wait sucks, but you won't be disapointed with the crossbreed.

If you are interested in saving some money on a Crossbreed check out http://www.crossbreedseconds.com/ I believe these holsters are returns from customers. They currently have a few Glock 26 holsters listed. Might be worth considering plus the only wait time is shipping.

I read this on another thread somewhere and did check it out before ordering. I saw a few g26 holster but all of them were with the laser under the barrel and that's not what I need. Thanks though!

Can you tell me how long you had to wear one of Comp-Tac's kydex clips before it broke?

Also check out the Max Tuck made by White Hat Holsters right here in Texas, I ordered one for myself last month hopefully it will be here in the next week or two. What sold me on this holster is you can change out the kydex if you have more than one gun you carry so you only need one holster and not several. Just my .02
