A gun law we really need
Everyone on this forum knows (or should Know) that guns are not all alike.
Even an experienced shooter does not know everything about every gun
on the market it would greatly improve firearms safety if every manufacturer
would include a video fully explaining all of the features of the guns they currently make.
It would be a good idea to encourage manufacturers to put up a video on their websites
explaining the safety features and the safest way to concealed carry guns in current production.
This would mean a slight increase in price But it would cut down on accidents that stir up the anti crowd

Re: A gun law we really need
...it would be interesting if we could know of a certainty how many "accidents" were out of ignorance of the gun or rules...and how many were because of IGNORING proper handling of the gun and rules...
Re: A gun law we really need
I was torn between two replies. I can't decide so I will include both and allow the reader to choose.
1. Most already include a manual. If someone doesn't read the fine manual, I doubt they would watch a video.
2. http://www.youtube.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: A gun law we really need
Isn't the onus on the purchaser to learn and familiarize themselves with the weapon? Every firearm I have purchased comes with a manual, and if I have a question on any of it, I do my own research.
I think the DVD, while a nice idea, is an unnecessary expense.

i like the "training" you receive from where I buy mine
both places , take the time to break it down and ensure you know the features and safety.
plus how to dis-assemble it for cleaning
that should be standard at every shop.
Even if you think you know it, you can always learn

Re: A gun law we really need
I believe in California, when the gunshop/FFL delivers a new gun to a purchaser, after the ten day waiting period, the purchaser must demonstrate how to load and unload, insert and release the magazine or cylinder, put on and remove the required hand gun lock that must be included with every purchase, use the various safety features, etc. They use snap caps, a magazine, if one required, and at least in the gun shops I have traded at, insist that you demonstrate these matters without sweeping patrons or employees or the clerk observing the demo in the process! Very fastidious, these gun shops.......
It is good to see someone put the rounds in the magazine facing the right way, etc!

Re: A gun law we really need
I suspect very few would actually watch the video just as I suspect very few read the manuals that are provided. Most people seem be to be more inclined to use the manual or a video as a reference when they come upon something they can't figure out. I tend to fall in this category.
Making more laws that drive up the cost is not the answer.

Tommyg, the error in your logic is thinking less accidents would make the antis less zealous.
Just like they include 18 year old gang bangers in numbers of "children" killed by gun violence... If the numbers of accidents go down they'll still want to ban guns.
These people don't think logically. Guns are scary. Nothing we do will change that.

I was kinda car shopping, and not every car dealer explains or has online videos of the GPS and radio location and how to operate the GPS while driving ... if there was a law ...I think there'd be fewer accidents ...
Some newcars have Internet access, I suppose I could watch the Interweb video on how to operate the GPS controls .... oops ...
