...I'm gonna drop one SILVER quarter in the jukebox and dance with the broom... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRb1-SAA ... re=related" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'll bet that there a lot of people who don't recognize what a jukebox meant to us in its hay day. Or that do wop was just a way of life then.
It may have only cost you a quarter for this but I found a used copy of the American Graffiti soundtrack on Amazon and it is now heading my way.

My Dad played/sang with "The Belmonts" before Dion discovered them.
Lots of do-wop at my house growing up. Memories.

I often think I was born in the wrong decade because I find myself often listening to music from a time way before mine. Doo Wop, Motown, 60's Garage, etc. I love this music...and I know what a jukebox is. It's that shoulder thing that goes up right?

AMERICAN GRAFFITI is one of my favorite movies. Not only can I dig it, I can relate to it. BTW, I lived in southern Illinois during that era. Parker's Midway Drug Store was our hangout. Every character portrayed in the movie hung out at Midway. Those were good times and we had music as compared to today's vulgar LOUD noise.
Re: While Everyone's Sleeping...
George Lucas wrote the screenplay based on his experiences growing up in the California central valley town of Modesto. Most of the movie was filmed in Petaluma, CA. There wasn't much to do in Modesto [then or now] so it was very popular to cruise the main drag on weekends.Oldgringo wrote:AMERICAN GRAFFITI is one of my favorite movies. One of my best friends in college grew up in Modesto. We made fun of that fact, but he used to defend his hometown by saying that it was close to San Francisco, close to Yosemite and close to the ocean, etc. It was close to those places, but Modesto was "in the middle of nowhere".

When I ordered my Rock-Ola, this is what I got. Where do I drop the change to make it play the oldies?

Harrisburg, Il is far removed from Modesto, CA geographically but I fondly recall pretty near all of the experiences portrayed in the movie...and maybe then some.WildBill wrote:George Lucas wrote the screenplay based on his experiences growing up in the California central valley town of Modesto. This tread reminds me that I need to watch this flick again.

I think that this movie rings true for many small towns. I have this on DVD, I will have to pull it out and watch it. It's hard for me to watch Ron Howard, knowing that he is going to lose all of his hair.Oldgringo wrote:Harrisburg, Il is far removed from Modesto, CA geographically but I fondly recall pretty near all of the experiences portrayed in the movie...and maybe then some.![]()

Speedo, I must have a few years on you. I seem to recall a time when you got 5 songs for a quarter. It was about the same time gum cost 5¢ per pack as did a bottle of 'coke' and a quarter would get a little more than a gallon of regular. Ethyl cost 10¢ more per gallon than did regular.speedsix wrote:...and nobody asked me what my other two songs were...back in the day, it was 3 for a quarter...
