DART trains and workplace

Post by n5wmk »

So a person rides the DART rail from Plano to downtown Dallas for work every day. He just got his CHL last month, and wants to carry while on the DART.
(I don't blame him - DART trains and bus stops can be scary.)

No problem there, he's allowed to legally carry on DART. The issue is when he gets to work - his workplace does not allow firearms, and has stated as much in the employees' handbook. So what's he to do? If he drove his own car, Texas law says he can leave it secured in his car on the employer's property. But as soon as he walks from the DART station into his workplace with his CW, he's subject to termination.

Not much you can do unfortunately. As long as your building is not posted 30.06, or you have not been verbally told that you can't carry or the handbook is not in 30.06 wording, then you can't be prosecuted for carrying, but you can be fired.

The only other option is if you have some type of locker you can secretly disarm and lock it up between the DART rail and work.

That is tough. With the DART shootings in the last year there is no way I ride without my pistols. Concealed means concealed, however I'm blessed with a gun friendly work place. Good luck on your decision, and may you never NEED your weapon.

To my mind it is wholly irresponsible to go into the world incapable of preventing violence, injury, crime, and death. How feeble is the mindset to accept defenselessness. How unnatural. How cheap. How cowardly. How pathetic-TN

Is there a bank close to his employer where he could rent a safe deposit box?

He'd need to make sure the bank hours work for him.

If his work were close enough to the bus station he might be able to store it in a locker there for the day. Are there still lockers like that in the bus and or train station?
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Is there any chance of having one of the auto lock boxes with the cable and carrying secured into the building. Is there a security office with a safe? I can think of a multitude of possibilities, but most will require at least someone at work having the sense to value your life and work with you towards a compromise which meets both needs.

...you know, I've thought of that when I had to go to visit my boys on the base...but with Greyhound forbidding us to CHL on the bus...the mindset there might be against us...and I don't trust their employees not to enter(don't say they can't) and steal or tamper...40 years ago, it would have been the perfect answer...

This came to mind after reading this article:
http://www.wfaa.com/news/crime/Some-Sti ... 55423.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I work for the parent company of WFAA, and saw they interviewed one of their own employees. Both companies state in the HR employee handbook that firearms are not allowed. I don't ride the train myself, so my CCW remains locked inside my car while I'm at work.

Good suggestion to see if there are lockers at DART. No bank between the DART station and WFAA. Only 1 block between them.

Thanks for the thoughts!
