Sherman VA Outpaient Clinic - NO GUNS

Post by AEA »

Sherman VA Clinic has been there for 3-4 years or so. First year, no sign. I carried there.

Last year around this time I went for my Physical and noticed the new sign and left 1911 in the truck.

Again today for another annual Physical and the sign is still there. Took a picture for ya'll.

It is NOT a 30.06 sign, but it is a Federal Department (like the Post Office) so they can use any kind of sign they want and if you violate it you go to Federal Detention.

Good question! :rules:
Never really thought about it as I only visit 2 Federal Facilities.....VA & Post Office and the Post Office has a "Notice" sign usually inside the building.

I was under the impression they didn't, but who knows.

Visited a friend here in Temple at the VA (I think its supposed to be one of the largest VAs in the country) and they had massive signs at all roads in about how no weapons are allowed. :mad5

NEVER carry on a federal installation/center. Even if you are pretty sure it's state/public property/OK to do so. There's a million ways that will get you in trouble, and all of them pretty much end with heavy fines , jail time, and a loss of the right to own a gun.
I don't fear guns; I fear voters and politicians that fear guns.

Actually they DO have to post it to enforce under 18 USC 930. See my cite below. And also it's a Federal misdemeanor, unless you carry in a Federal Court (then felony).
8 USC § 930 - Possession of firearms and dangerous weapons in Federal facilities

(a) Except as provided in subsection (d), whoever knowingly possesses or causes to be present a firearm or other dangerous weapon in a Federal facility (other than a Federal court facility), or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 1 year, or both.
...
(h) Notice of the provisions of subsections (a) and (b) shall be posted conspicuously at each public entrance to each Federal facility, and notice of subsection (e) shall be posted conspicuously at each public entrance to each Federal court facility, and no person shall be convicted of an offense under subsection (a) or (e) with respect to a Federal facility if such notice is not so posted at such facility, unless such person had actual notice of subsection (a) or (e), as the case may be.
