Texas' top law enforcement agency on Tuesday urged spring break vacationers to avoid all travel to Mexico because of "continued violence throughout the country."

It's the second straight year the Texas Department of Public Safety has issued the warning.

I know three that won't be going there.

Well, I'll give you all a report--going 3/25-29th to an all-inclusive resort in Cancun. We do the all-inclusive about twice a year and as long as you stay in good areas and stay out of places you don't have any business in anyway, and stay aware--it's ok. They don't want anything to mess up the tourist traffic!

I was just there at a similar resort. (In Playa Del Carmen actually)
While there, a couple of large bags of drugs washed up on shore. Within minutes, men with long guns and helicopters came in and retrieved it. Then everyone went about their business again. It was bizarre. Like it happens every day.

I went to Mexico once I didn't forget anything so I have no reason to return. At one time Beirut, Lebanon was considered the "Paris of the Middle East" that was before the terrorist activities started. It won't be long before it spills over into the "nice" areas of Mexico.

FWIW, the narco-terrorists couldn't care less about the resort industry.

I've spent too much time there already. I'd honestly rather be right where I am now.

I'm in the "I don't need to go there" camp. Nothing there worth risking my health and well-being for. And plenty of other beautiful (and safer) places on this planet just begging for me to visit. I can't remember anymore why, but years back there was something about Mexico that told me they didn't really want US citizens there (except for our money, thank you). That's when I decided they didn't need my money, either.

As of last fall, one cruise line had decided to suspend stops in Puerto Vallarta, a popular port of call, because of the country's ongoing drug war. That decision was made by Santa Clarita-based Princess Cruises, which, like Carnival Cruise Lines, is a unit of Carnival Corp.

Carnival itself did not cancel stops on its namesake cruise line in Puerto Vallarta, and Princess Cruises was set to resume visits to Puerto Vallarta this month.

A port north of Puerto Vallarta has also experienced problems. After a February 2011 shooting left two dead in a hotel parking lot in the tourist area of Mazatlan, several cruise lines began canceling stops, including Carnival Cruise Lines. Gulliksen said Carnival's cancellation of visits to Mazatlan remains in effect.

I have spent many a trip in Mexico for both business and pleasure. I used to go to Valle de Bravo and Monterrey to go hang gliding. No way would I go now. Cuernavaca is a resort town that my wife and I really enjoyed and had a great time visiting. No way would we go there now. At one time it was less expensive to stay in Juarez than El Paso. Don't think I'd do that again either.

There are lots a places here in the U.S. that I have not seen.

We went to an all inclusive resort in Jamaica a few years ago(company function)---don't let the all inclusive give you false security--while we were there our house was robbed at knife point (four apartments-the people upstairs from us had locked themselves in the bedroom to get away from the BG's) the security guards that patrolled the area, one of them had a knife cut on his neck. The place had an 8 foot security fence with razor wire on top.

Nope won't be leaving the US anymore.
