Really liking my new Kangaroos!!

Post by johncanfield »

First off, let me state I have absolutely no business relationship with Kangaroo Carry - these are my unsolicited opinions.

Kangroo Carry had a display at the TCHA annual meeting last weekend and I have been curious about their products so wife and tried on a sample. Wow - we bought three different models. I've been wearing my M&P 9 compact the entire week, day and evening, in the Standard II model. It took about a full day to get used to the rig, at first I thought there is no way I'm going to like this, but sure enough after a day or two, I rarely know it's there.

When I was carrying IWB/OWB at 3:30 I had to keep my shirt from blowing open and had to be careful when pulling my iPhone out of its case (same side as the holster) so I didn't expose the carry. And as all of you know, there are certain issues when taking that pottie break. I usually pulled the gun out of the holster to make the process a little easier.

Also when driving with IWB/OWB at 3:30 position, there was a little discomfort, not that bad, but I thought how difficult it would be to draw from that position with a fastened seat belt. One other aspect I just thought of is after carrying on my hip for several hours, I would get a little tired I suppose in the hip area - it was noticeable after several hours of carry. No such issues with the Kangaroo.

To my complete surprise, dear wife will now carry the Ruger SR40 in the Air Marshall holster :thumbs2: . The SR40 is a fairly large pistol for those not familiar with its size. She likes the SR40 but before the Kangaroo, there was no easy way for her to carry it on-person. This morning she had the SR40 on but the polo shirt was a little too tight and the Ruger's handle butt wasn't concealing so she switched to the Micro with the little Sig P238.

One thing I don't like is trying to carry a spare double stack magazine in the belt part - it pokes me and it really isn't that comfortable, so the spare mag goes in the pants pocket. The single stack Sig magazine does work great in the Kangaroo mag pouch.

YMMV, but the Kangaroo is now my primary carry holster of choice. The other various holsters we have (IWB/OWB/Remora) will still be used sometimes, so they will remain in the duty-ready position.

FYI: My body size is average - not tall, not short, not fat, not thin. Wife has the typical female short torso.

I bought one for my wife. She even says she likes it.............and then she never wears it........just like the other holsters I bought her, which she says she likes, and then still puts her pistol in an overstuffed carry purse which practically guarantees that she'll never be able to get her gun out in time to use it. :grumble

I have a Kangaroo holster and really like it for carry during the winter with a button-down shirt. I say in winter because I have to wear a t-shirt between the band and me. I have tried it during the summer months and it doesn't work for me then as it is too hot.

As for carrying comfortably, it works well from a weight and balance standpoint, even with a Glock 19/22 and a full sized 1911 in it. :thumbs2:

It took a couple of months of polite cajoling to get DW to carry just about any time she leaves the house and I made it very clear from the get-go that purse and fanny pack carry was a terrible idea IMHO. At first she was only carrying the little Sig and I kept at her about carrying the M&P but she now tells me she doesn't like it as much as the SR40 (she's pretty good with it), so I'm pretty certain the SR40 will be her primary carry gun. She even bought some undershirt thingies (forgot what she called them) to wear under the Kangaroo. I'm very proud of her - she's come a long way.

Keith - I was wondering about summer carry with the Kangaroo. I like to wear t-shirts and shorts when possible and I don't think I would like the cloth band on my skin so I'll probably have to go with IWB - that's why the other holsters are in the duty-ready drawer ;-) .

I have a Kangaroo, too, and find that it works best for me among carry options in more formal settings. I've had no luck at all making my dress shirttail stay tucked in around my Minotaur IWB. I must move too much. So the Kangaroo gives me a carry option where I might have had to pocket carry the LCP.

Like Keith, I find that a thin undershirt is good. Depending on the color of the dress shirt, the band of the Kangaroo may show through without an undershirt. I could easily say "yeah, its a back brace" but I'd rather not field that question at all.

I've played a musical instrument in public with the Kangaroo and wearing just a dress shirt and slacks. Even with all eyes on me, no one ever said a word. That's concealment confidence.
