Don't count on CHL website for accurate status

Post by Glenn61 »

I was curious about the accuracy of the status of my application so I sent a simple question asking TX CHL if they had received it--that's it. Simple yes or no would have sufficed but I guess they send out standard canned email responses. I know all about the 60 days, etc and these folks are probably overworked/buried with requests. I also know from dealing with other programs such as Texas H.E.A.T that things don't always work very well when it comes to updating automated systems. In any case, here's what they sent back today (3/16/2012):
----------------
Dear Applicant,

Thank you for giving the Department the opportunity to respond to your email regarding your Texas Concealed Handgun license.

A review of our records indicates that your completed Texas Concealed Handgun license application was received on 3/6/2012. You must allow 60 days for processing. We do not consider your application overdue until after 5/6/2012. You may track your status online at http://www.txdps.state.tx.us" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, Concealed Handgun Section, as long as you have all of the required information.

Should you have any additional questions or need further assistance, please contact Concealed Handgun Licensing Customer Relations at 1-512-424-7293.

Best regards,
Concealed Handgun Program

Unfortunately, the website still leads you to think that your paperwork is still being controlled by the USPS--something that still worries me today, because I have two checks (sent to TX Dept of Transportation back in 2007) that are still missing in action. :confused5

Updating their website might go a long way to help them avoid the number of inquiries by impatient people like me "rlol"

Guess I can go back to reading some NRA stuff and decide whether I want to do the annual or lifetime membership. :headscratch

Im not going to state the "60 day rule", but I can say, from my couple years on here, and ready MANY threads on the time frame of the DPS, it takes about 2 weeks from DPS actual receipt of your documents, to the website actually stating that.

Yes, if they updated it, it would be better, but at the same time, if people let them do their jobs, and gave them reasonable time frame to do the work, people may get their licenses a day or two earlier as well.

it is a flawed system, but also know that the majority of those in the past 2 years almost have received their licenses in about 35 days or less, which is well inside the 60 days, so sit back, relax, ask lots of questions, learn a lot, and the time will go by quickly (not really, it will feel like forever "rlol" , but stay busy)

They updated their website the same day I received the email response. :headscratch In any case, I have plenty of reading material to keep me busy.
